like title says im a novice, got bored with some other class (around 40ish) and am really liking lock, but its my first caster class so i was wondering if + spell dmg affects my DoT's, does +healing increase my drain life an spells of that nature, and what are SL/SL and Sl/ruin and all those other build i keep seeing people mention on the forums? Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes, +Spell Dam does affect DoTs, only it's through Coefficients. This is just a very simplified example, look on wowwiki.com for exact numbers. Say you have +100 Spell Dam. Corr will receive, let's say 25%. So you get 25 extra damage over the course of the spell, so like 5 extra each tick. Look at Wowwiki for exact numbers, mine are pulled out of my ***.

SL/SL is refering to a talet build that goes far enough in Affliction for Siphon Life and far enough in Demo for Soul Link.

SL/Ruin is enough in Demo to get to Soul Link and enough in Destro for Ruin.

Any other questions feel free to ask, we'll try to help.

Early on in your career you'll want to go for more stamina and stam/int gear. Plus damage doesn't mean much until later on.

Stamina = mana (from tap), so it's a killer stat.

Read the compendium and study Drain Hunting and Drain Tanking.

edit, I don't know if +healing helps you when draining, but don't go for +healing gear (unless it's all you can get, or it has some other stat that is great).

This is the wow-wiki page that explains it.

The faster a spell is, the less +damage gets applied. If your spell speed is enhance through a talent or item, the ORIGINAL spell cast time is used to get the spell coefficient, not the enhanced time.

Thanks mike, didn;t have time to look up the link at work.

Also, no, +healing does not effect Siphon Life or Drain Life.
