Why You Need A Good MouseFollow

This weekend I learned why you need a good mouse.

My rogue is low level still, but I am learning as I go. I redid my keybindings after reading the most excellent post here about that very thing (see the FAQ if you have no idea what I am talking about, its linked there) so that most of my moves are controlled by Middle Mouse. Namely (Ctrl) MM Click is some form of attack, (Ctrl) MM Up is a CP generator and (Ctrl) MM Down some form of finisher. Alt + Anything are oh **** buttons like vanish and the like.

So right. My wife starts playing WoW - good times, honestly. So in order to help her out I took my laptop off its docking station and plugged in a laser mouse to it so I could sit out in the living room and play with her.

We played for a bit and I logged in my rogue, and then - hell began.

Middle Mouse Click was not working correctly. I mean it wasn't _bad_ but it was not reacting on the first click - sometimes two or three.

Now some folks are saying: So what, that's like what - 3/10th's of a second?

Others are wincing in horror at the thought of trying to assassinate another player and losing that 3/10th's of a second.

In closing: Get a good mouse, don't do what I did. Friends Don't Let Friends Use Crappy Hardware.

Honestly?

Mouse A: Simple $15 logitech laser usb mouse. Corded.

Mouse B: $35 five button gaming mouse.

Mouse A performs far better.

Ugh, you really don't know what you're talking about.

Funny, I didn't see you at my house using my mouse last night. I somehow missed that.

I was speaking from my experience. I used a (reputably) nice five button and a cheap Logitech three button and the three button worked better for me. For me. Now if you want to go out and spend $50 on a mouse in the hopes that it will make you a better player, by all means. But I did buy the better mouse and the middle click only works half the time.

Edit: Its also possible - if not likely - that the five button I got is an overprice piece of ****. It is an off brand afterall. I might invest in a higher end one and see if that makes a difference because having two or three extra bound mice buttons seems like a grand idea.

Given you have multiple level 70 toons I think its safe to agree that you are a better player as you've spent far more time playing WoW than I have.

My point was, obscurely:

3-Button Logitech > 5-Button Off Brand.

Given you just said you use a Logitech as well, I fail to see how this makes the above statement incorrect.

I'm actually looking for a new mouse as well, if anyone could link/recommend one that would be swell!

My current is a wireless 5 button, but sadly the right button tends to stick after i release it, which just sucks.

I'm currently using a Razer Deathadder, and I really like it. It's smooth, precise, and just feels a lot better than a cheapie mouse. The only problem is it's only a 5 button mouse. I wanted one of the 7 button ones, but this was the best bang for buck.

Mines like the G5, but corded with 2 thumb buttons instead of 1. I love it. I originally bought it for FPS's but then I moved into WoW and its lasted me ages. Having 2 extra buttons on your thumb is great, and with SHIFT + ALT modifiers it puts 6 abilities right there. I've never felt the need to bind scroll up/scroll down, and I'd never use the scroll click thing, its too unreliable for me (I'd scroll by accident too often).

Like this - http://www.techspot.com/reviews/hardware/mouse_roundup_gaming/g5.jpg

But 2 buttons where the thumb sits instead of 1. And missing some of the flashy things too.

It's not just about number of buttons. That is the main thing, but the higher end mice also have much more precise lasers in them. They are quicker and more accurate. Usually at least 3 times more than your run-of-the-mill mouse.

Well, now I have optic mouse(logitech-2 buttons)-the only reason for mouse with more keys is that i think it will be easier and quicker to use skills durning PvP.

I have a HP mouse(two buttons + scroll) that came along with the computer I recently bought but I'm thinking of getting the Logitech MX518 (are you allowed to write that?).
I will be using it for both FPS and WoW of course.
Any thouhgts someone?

Razer Diamondback
Razer Copperhead
Logitech MX518
Logitech G5

And soon to have Razer Lachesis

Diamondback and Copperhead are the best, although I am using the G5 for everything now, work, games and such.

Microsoft Sidewinder isn't so bad either, probably the most comfortable mouse you'll use regardless of hand preference.

From my experience, whatever you do don't use a wireless mouse. Although they are sweet if you feel like playing in bg's just getting honor and running around because you can be lounging in a chair like halfway across the room. But from what I had(2 logitech wireless's) I discovered they eat freakin batteries like a fat guy eats candy bars, at least 2 a day.

I use the 5-button Micro$oft Optical Trackball along with a Belkin Nostomo N52 keypad.

Everything I use the most is keybound to either of those, so I rarely have to mouse-click on my action bars and now the keyboard is only for chat.

I tried mousing it when I began playing, but the trackball makes it much smoother, imho. And it is so nice to have 14 action bar items (along with shift and ctrl) right at your fingertips.

The down side is that M$ no longer makes that particular trackball, but the up side is that you can sometimes find them on ebay for as low as $0.99 (plus $9.00 shipping): <link>.

Anyway-that mouse have 7 buttons,so I hope is enough.
