Kara MageFollow

I am in a small guild that hasn't started kara yet. My dream would to be to start kara asap but I know that you need the correct gear and skill. I was wondering if you could tell me if my gear is kara ready. I don't want the guild to drag me through kara but I am only looking for a 5% or less difference in DPS between me and the DPS leader(almost always a rogue). Also I will be getting my spell strike set in a few days.

I also use this as a trinket http://www.wowarmory.com/item-info.xml?i=25936 in place of the carrot when I am in a group.

Any information will help. I know I need to work on my spell hit but what would be a good kara starting spell hit. I have heard 163 is the cap but nothing about what you should enter kara with. What would be a good start for bonus damage? I have heard 600, is this true? My crit rate without any buffs is ~25% is this good?

My biggest worry is that my cloak, shoes, and shoulders could be better but I cant seen to find anything that has as much spell damage and crit on them.

Thanks
Doug

Your gear looks really good. Just make sure you try to work on getting some more stam gear. There are a couple things in there that will easily one shot you.

Fenwick;

Your gems are almost all +crit. I'd change those to +hit/+damage. Your damage is a bit low, so I'd look at doing some enchants if you have any extra cash laying around. Spell thread on your pants, +damage to gloves (or glove that have +damage and some +damage to gloves), etc. All in all, if you have a good tank and such you'll be an addition to Kara, but I think your damage and such is a bit low. Ideally, I'd want to have 700 damage and 10% +hit going into kara as a ballpark. The veteran's silk belt would be better than what you have now, if you have any spare honor as well.

HTH.

You dont need to be in complete blues/epics to perform, but you will want to get in there with substantial level 68-70 ilvl 100-115 gear from the level 70 instances or crafting, some even from quest rewards. Basically look to reach 500-600 spell damage, possibly 15%-18% crit rating and 8k health fully buffed. Also a hit rating around 75 - 100 will land most of your hits, but the higher the better. I did fine with 75, but have since bumped it up.

You also wanna have substantial mana, as some of the fights are long and mana intensive. Take a look at my build, we fought Moroes the other night and out of pure luck I used less than 200 mana the whole fight. Clearcasting FTW!

First... the only time I've ever used 200 mana alone in a fight, is when I get 1 shotted by something. Do you mean you had <insert your max mana> - 200 mana left at the end of the fight, after using evocation/mana pots, etc? Otherwise, I'd say it is impossible for a mage to be alive and dpsing during a boss fight (esp Moroes, where you have 5 mobs to burn down) and only use 200 mana. That'd be 100 straight clearcasts...

Also, 15-18% crit is a bit high for a frost mage....

edit: I cannot spell.

I would expect a frost mage to have close to 18-20% crit and a fire mage to have 30+% chance to crit (with molten armor).

As a mage who has almost all the gear I need, my crit percentage was only 15% buffed as frost. It's almost 30% for my fire gear. I think asking an entry level mage to kara to meet that will cause them to gem so that their +hit is lacking severely. If their +hit is down, then the +crit blows.

For entry into Kara... focus on +hit -> +damage -> +crit IMO.

Sorry to disagree, but I don't believe the pre-kara gear has that much +hit with +crit and +damage... that's why the stuff you get in kara is purple. ;-)

Your gear is equal to, if not a bit better, than mine was when I started kara. I did fine with the stats you have, and I suspect you will as well in the early parts. You may not have enough dps for curator or prince, but that will come with time. Good luck and good job on your gear.

Thanks guys, I am working on getting more stam as we speak with out taking away too much spell damage. I did heroics the other day and was one shotted so I realized that more health is a must for kara. Now I will feel a little better when I tell the guild mates to hurry up and get their kara gear together so we can finally run kara and all the other great raids.

Thanks
Doug
