What's faster?Follow

Just hit 40 and got my mount. Was wondering what is really faster, the travel form (leopard) or my kodo mount? The mount seems slower but maybe it's jsut cause it's so big and seems slow. I quest with a paladin and he got his and I seem to keep up with his mount but my travel form is a bit slower than him on his mount. just hoping I didn't waste 90 gold.

You didn't waste your gold. Mount goes 60% faster than running, travel form is only 40% faster.

Unlike mounting up, travel form is instant cast and you can pop into it even while in combat, so it's fantastic for gettin' the hell out of dodge. Or for running the flag in WSG.

For traveling you should be on your mount because it's faster, and because while you can get knocked off it, that won't happen nearly as often as you'd get "dazed" if hit from behind in travel form.

Indeed, just look at the item and skill descriptions, it always says how much faster they make you move.

Also, you need to buy basic riding training to get epic land training, then basic flying training (though as a Druid you get it free) and then epic flying training. So you'll need to spend the money eventually anyway.

When I hit 40 on my druid, I remember wondering the same thing. I think some of the perceivable speed comes from being closer to the ground in travel form compared to being up on your "angry tractor" (i.e., kodo) as a Tauren.

My friend played an undead warrior, and he was amazed how "fast" his mount was, but I didn't think mine was that big a deal. I even raced him one day in travel form just to make sure his mount was really faster!

Going from 0 to 40% for my friend was a huge jump, but going from 40% to 60% wasn't so noticeable for me.

Well, yeah, but you can't pick herbs, and as the You Might Be Feral thread points out, that 3 seconds or whatever to mount up is so annoying. :)

I'm actually surprised by how much I still use Travel form. I really only pull out the mount for extra long runs or when I'm feeling too much in a hurry to stop and pick herbs along the way. But I don't group or do BG's, both of which I am sure the mount is essential for.

And I'm still super-excited to get my epic mount. Some day.

Do we actually get the 225 riding skill free at lvl 68? Or do we still have to buy it when we get 300 riding for epic flight form?

Free, you just have to buy the 300. Yes, becoming a bird magically ingraines riding skill into your brain, but you must further that understanding in order to magically shapeshift into a faster bird.

700 gold to go.

And no-one can properly explain how amazing & fantastic Epic Fligh Form is. You just have to experience it to understand. My other 70 with his non-epic flying mount seems to be moving in slow-motion - it is very, very painful.

Ah, no one can explain it, but anyone can experience it: Public Test Realm FTW. : )

'Tis better to have flown swiftly and have lost, than never to have flown swiftly at all...
