Question about steady shotFollow

#1 Nov 11 2007 at 6:13 PM Rating: Decent
I'm used to timing moves due to timing slam on my warrior. I just dinged 62 and got Steady Shot and I'm not entirely sure I'm using it correctly. Basically, it seems to be like Slam in that it will not auto-attack during the casting duration. I am not sure if it resets the auto-attack timer or not. Lastly, my attack speed is absurdly high. I'm looking for a slower hard hitter as my weapon has something like 2.2 attack speed, which translates to a normal attack speed of 1.6 seconds with Serpent's Swiftness. If I get that Quick Shots buff from Improved Aspect of the Hawk, I have around a 1.3 second attack speed. If I use the Rapid Fire skill while Quick Shots is up, I have around a 1 second attack speed. This is impossible to time around a 1.5 second attack speed.

My questions:

1) When do you start the Steady Shot? Immediately after your auto-attack or do you want it to land around the same time as an auto-attack?

2) In my particular situation, should I just not use Steady Shot until I get a slower weapon? With a 1.6 second attack speed, it's very hard to fit a 1.5 second skill in. With any buffs up, it's impossible.

Try to time it for the instant auto-shot goes off. When Steady Shot goes off, an auto shot will almost immediately follow it and then it's immediately time to queue another Steady Shot. With a 1.6 second adusted weapon speed, it's almost inevitable that you're going to clip some of your auto-shots, but you're still going to be doing more damage overall.

I would keep practicing with Steady Shot right after auto-shot goes off. It's like getting two ranged attacks where you'd normally only get one. In my case (SV Hunter), Rapid Fire still leaves me a tiny window to use Steady Shot. In your case, you might be better off to omit Steady Shot when you use Rapid Fire and get a couple of extra ticks of mana back.

Thanks for the response. I'll get some more practice in tonight, see what I can do.

Try using an autoshot timer (Zhuntermod for example) to get timing perfect.
Because just by using your ears is a lot harder then a visible meter.
Especially in midcombat when there can be a lot more sounds around ;)

This helped me tons when I saw it on Youtube. Good to see the mod going, watching the cooldowns, and hearing the shots go off. Wouldn't have picked up the rotation nowhere near as fast without seeing someone use it first.

Although you can tell he gets kinda sloppy, because you really shouldn't have more then a second of cooldown after a Arcane or Multi-shot.

I have an attack bar timer mod. Abar or something like that. I might try out Zhuntermod just to see if it's any better. I've had a swing timer for a long time due to timing slams on my warrior.
