helping my friend improve his shamanFollow

#1 Nov 11 2007 at 2:21 PM Rating: Default
ok well the old shaman forums have inspired me to always help a fellow shaman, i believe in the power of a united class, my friend (name disclosed for reasons) is an enh shammy.
But he has a lot of flaws and doesn't want to listen to me

1. He DWs the same to axes which is a No-No as your off-hand should be faster, but they are also 2.4 and not slower than 2.6

2. He is "suicide" build but never does pvp which i have also heard among enh shammys on the shaman forums is a No-No

3. He pulls with lightning spells

4. He has quite a bit of intellect and +spell crit gear

here is his build

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shaman/talents.html?5500010500300000000050050001450113053111000000000000000000000

and the two axes he uses are the [Axe of the Legion]

plz tell me any tips i can tell him to make him a pwnt shammy

It seems your friend is not necessarily focusing on enhancement completely.
Since he has a large reliance on his spell crits.
If this is true I don't know if he is going oom quickly or not. Probably is.

1. Dual wielding the same weapons isn't a bad thing. As long as the off hand is the same speed or slower than the main hand it should be fine. You don't want your off hand being faster because you don't want it stealing WF procs off your main hand. So speed wise at least 2.4 or slower. Off hand slower than main.

2. Since enhancement shaman isn't about spamming your spells or nuking the enemy to death, going into the elemental tree isn't the best way to go. Going into restro would give your friend better survivability and party support.

3. Pulling with lightning spells isn't all that bad. When you do this you can lay down your totems and have them out when the battle starts. This way you don't have to cast them down in the middle of the fight. This is especially true if you put down more than 2 totems.

4. If he has way more int & +spell crit gear than enhancement gear (str, stam, crit, hit, agi), then he might want to consider using flametongue on his off hand. Although WF might still be better. Also if he has an overwhelming amount if elemental gear, he might want to consider respecing to elemental and level with that. That way he can run instances nuking and back up healing as well. I only say this because he's already at a high level (64), as that is the area where alot of elemental gear becoems available. Also he is focusing on spell crits for a good amount of his damage.

Eh... under no circumstances should the off-hand be faster, the same speed or slower is what you are aiming for. Two of the same axe is fine and Axe of the Legion is a great one. He's spot on there.

It's certainly not ideal, enh/resto would give him far more survivability in a PvE setting, not such a big deal while leveling but if he wants to raid he will NEED to spec into resto for the 3% to hit.

Yup, so do I. Particularly if I need to separate one mob from a nearby group. I will often pull with LB so I have time to place my totems and also so that I can choose terrain that suits my style (I like to jump around a lot when I'm grinding... I know it's not the case but it feels like I crit more when I jump around hehe).

This is where he will really be suffering, trying to mix up your gear like this just gimps you DPS. He needs to decide which spec he wants to be and start gearing specifically.
It's actually a fairly common misconception (scary how common) that mixing stats will up your DPS, it just won't, sure your spells will do more damage, but what you lose in melee damage means you end up with lower dps overall.

Not horrible, I don't personally like anticipation but it's not a bad talent. The one big problem with his build is Elemental Devastation. It's the reason he's taking spell crit I suspect and therein lies the problem. ED is a trick talent, the problem is that to get regular procs you need a fair amount of spell crit, to get that you are sacrificing melee stat. If he geared for pure melee he'd probably be running about 6%+ more crit than he is now and that's constant stat, not proc based. If he insists on Enh/Elem he should sink those 3 points in EotS on the same tier. That survivability will be far more valuable.
