Elemental shaman were told that while we'd be nerfing the damage coefficients for lightning bolt and chain lightning bolt in patch 2.3, overall they'd notice a damage increase. We know most of your tests reveal a damage decrease, however. We've been running extensive tests of our own and have identified that there is approximately a 6% nerf to elemental dps (depending on gear of course). As a result, we're going to increase lightning bolt and chain lightning bolt's coefficient so that elemental shaman gain approximately 5 to 6% of their damage back if you assume roughly 1200 spell damage.

It should break down as follows

If you have below 1100 spell damage you will see a slight buff to your dps

If you are between 1100 and 1200 spell damage you should see neither a decrease or increase to your dps

If you are over 1200 spell damage you will see a slight nerf to your dps.

This change should be hotfixed onto the PTR at some point soon, and we'll be watching the situation closely.

Rejoice!

I'm glad they finally corrected their mistake. Sort of. However, it still boggles the mind as to how this somehow passed them by the first time when they initially implemented it. I would think that they should know how their own game works by now... The decrease in DPS was identified no later than immediately by the Shaman community, and they started out by arguing with us, flat-out telling us that we were wrong, that this was indeed an overall DPS increase.

Eyonix has not redeemed himself in my eyes. His behavior recently towards the Shaman community as a whole has been downright asinine, and with this he has barely managed to save face, if he's even done that.

Honestly, this should have come with an apology.

question: is it still worth having huge crit with the change's in the patch, i've done some looking around at gear and what not with ZA and heroic badge's, and once i get all of it i should be around 37% lightning crit and 904spdmg.

so i was wondering with the change's should i dumb some crit and go for more spdmg? also says a slight dps increase if your below 1100, would that apply to 900spdmg or do you really need to be up around 1100 to feel it.

off topic question but i've been considering dropping skinning and picking up alchemy to make alchemist stone... do you think it's worth a trinket spot over a trinket with say crit or spdmg on it? i would end up a LWer/alch tho.

798 spell dmg unbuffed
+55 totem of void
+23 food
+101 wrath of air
+42 from weapon buff
+80 from flask of binding light
+180 trinket proc
+200 trinket proc
+Prayer of spirit, cant remember how much that gives when imp.

1479 + Prayer = still a dmg reduction.

Without trinkets, 1099 spell dmg, which is on the very verge of being a dmg decrease as opposed to live. And I have 2 pieces of Kara level gear and nothing higher. This is still a nerf guys.

But still, not as big of a nerf :)

Yes, we're all aware of that. But I'll take half a nerf over a full nerf any day of the week.

There have been intermittent complaints of Elemental Shaman bursting too hard in PvP, though I can't say I've heard any complaints about us doing too much damage in PvE.

In all honesty, I think this nerf was put in place to make Mages look better by comparison; except none of the Mages are complaining about us. Their beef, and rightfully so, is largely an internal one, though it's hard to overlook the fact that Warlocks are the ones making them look obsolete by comparison. If any class needed to be adjusted in any way to make Mages look better, it's 'Locks.

it's always the hybird/support class that gets the nerf before other classes with the sole purpose of damage

sigh... its not the fact that we can kill our opponents so fast its just that people tend to under estimate a shaman thats not either toting a 2h or duelwielding in pvp, so when we 4 shot them with our massive crits in such little time they're all like "ZOMG WTF?!?!!? that stupid shamtard needs to be nerfed"

like said before... shamans take skill to be good at, A LOT of skillful players own with their shaman, /points at self, but with the case of a warlcock you can pretty much wack-off to a draenei with your eyes closed while simotaneously having the most kills in a BG...

thats all i have to say about that...

a half nerf is better than a full nerf.... but... with that said

A NERF IS A NERF
