LW+Skinning for a Hunter = Good?Follow

#1 Nov 09 2007 at 4:11 PM Rating: Decent
Hey all,
Is Leatherworking+Skinning good for a Hunter? I've asked some people, they say its just a waste of money until you reach Skill 375. Is it true or should I just use this proffesion?

Thanks!

All basic equipment crafting skills are in my opinion useless at low level unless you dedicate to keeping the skill proportionate to your own level.

For instance I have a lvl 35 paladin, and he is a JC, I have bought tons of mats off the AH along with what I pick up during questing etc and I still can only make stuff a couple levels below me.

I think herbalism and alchemy would be a good one to use because even if you out level your alch skill the pots you make are still useful. And herbalism is a good money getter.

If it is your first char on that server, go two gathering professions. Already have a goldfarming main? Just level that crafting as you go.

I wouldn't recommend skinning as gathering profession, at least in tbc. It is sad but my lower lvl leather, like Thick Leather, sells for more than knothide, which goes for a pittance on Elune now. Mining, Herb would be a good choice.

Actually, skinning isn't bad at all for a gathering profession. It allows you to grind beasts which have drops in addition to the leather itself. With spacious bags you can farm Knothide and Clefthoof Leather until you get sick of it, and also turn in trash loot for quite alot of gold. Best part? You don't waste your tracking skills on a resource. You actually track your opponents instead.

Also, it depends on the server. On my own server I can make a hefty amount of money through skinning alone. My Dragonscale LW is mostly just for making the BoP items for myself, and was trained to 300 pre-tbc.

While leveling, Skinning will allow you to make money of every single beast you kill during quests/grinding. Other gathering professions slow you down by forcing alot of detours on you that could have been used on the next mob in sight.

As for secondary gathering profession? Try Enchanting. Don't try leveling it beyond the needed skills to disenchant contemporary loot, but disenchant all the BoP stuff you don't need and most greenies. It will usually sell for more than the item itself on the AH, and it doesn't have an Auction House fee.

I would say go with LW and skinning. You can make your own armor, wich is better then the armor you can get from AH (as you level up, and you will make the armor anyway while you boost lw).

If you go with two gathering profs until lvl 70, and then wish to get LW (would be a good idear). Then you'll have to

1) Make all the gear from 1 - 375, witch you can't use now, and it's unsellable at ah - so goes to vendor for 1s each :|.
2) You have to run around and farm skin on low lvl mobs or buy it from AH for 20g per stack.

Ofc you can just stick with two gathering profs at lvl 70 and pay someone to craft armor for you (or get it form raiding/instances). But it is a nice feeling to have gear equal to tier4½ without ever stepping up for a raid (and it's pretty easy to get mats for + you can make a ton of money on LW (making up for the money lost from not having two gathering profs). It will allso make it easier to get startet with raiding, since you won't have to run normal instances until you puke, just to pick up your dungeon 3 set (I had the primal nethers a day or two after I dinged lvl 70, so I went from green chest, bracers and belt to tier4½ alike - PoW what an upgrade (and yes I was lucky with nether drops from BM etc!).

I have now been raiding SSC/TK/mag etc etc. for months now, and I still use my craftet bop gear (for MM spec)(Atm SV spec - and using craftet chest (allso made by myself) + drops (kinda counter agument for what I just wrote - but anyway :P))
