I respecced and outfitted my warr to tank a few weeks ago, and as being newb i've been doing a lot of reading. Well, I read in a guide that a tank should use the highest DPS weapon he can find, regardless is it's speed. I'd be very greatful for any opinions or eleborations. Thanks!

White damage is a vital part of threat prodution. And it is measured by DPS of the weapon. The more DPS - the more white damage - the more threat produced.

As for speed - both slow and fast weapons have its strenghts.
Fast weapon will generate rage more consistantly nad will be less endangered by miss/parry /dodge string. It will produce more threat with HS spamm as well.
Slow weapon will on the other hand favour Devastate.

While that is true, that is not the only concern. As a main tank in a 5 man or raid, the vast majority of your rage is going to be generated from taking damage, not doing damage. Your weapon is important for the initial threat/rage/aggro generation, but once you've established the initial aggro, it's not nearly as important. Sure it will increase your TPS because you're doing more white damage and with devastate, but for a prot warrior, your shield is probably more important than your weapon. Shield Slam is your highest threat attack and scales with the block value of your shield.

I still use the quest reward from killing Durn in Nagrand on my warrior for tanking. It may be the best non-epic tanking weapon in the game. It's pretty low DPS, but it has great stats.

I'm using http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=28425&locale=enUS;source=live even though the stats on the Durn quest reward sword are better. I still have the Durn quest sword though and will use it if I need the extra defense rating. Most of the time when I'm not tanking, I dual-wield those two swords.

I kind of like the faster weapons but for most fights I really don't think it makes a lot of difference for tanking. In the past I have usually chosen a tanking weapon based more on stats and DPS than anything else.
