WoW GM's ignored me it seemsFollow

Playing my lock one day recently, I noticed a tooltip mistake. I put in a ticket about the mistake I found. Looking at the patch notes, the GM's obviously didn't care about the mistake.

If you are wondering what the tooltip mistake was, it's on drain life (the lower rank ones as far as i know, my lock isn't close to outlands yet).
It apparently "drains x amount of health every 0 sec for x seconds"

not a mistake..it means that you don't have to wait a full second for the first tick to go off.

But that also applies to each tick after it, so that means that it waits 0 seconds for each tick to go off, which, if it were true, would mean you would actually drain all their health at the initial cast, because every tick would be going off 0 seconds after the previous one.

No, it should read "Transfers X health every 1 second from the target to the caster. Lasts 5 seconds." As opposed to other DoTs, it deals damage and heals every second as opposed to every 3 seconds. "0 seconds" is definitely a tooltip error.

They don't put every single change into the patch notes, especially stuff like tooltip corrections. If the spell in question is working correctly (and last time I used it, Drain Life seems to be working as intended), there's no reason to make a deal about fixing it.

If it isn't corrected when 2.3 goes live, put in another ticket.

You sure about that? I just checked all of mine and they look normal to me...

I think I have seen that before, though. Wait. Epiphany!

You have a cast speed buff? Drain life plus a cast speed buff (Mystical Skyfire Diamond proc or any spell haste) makes for it saying every 0 seconds.

mine says 0 seconds aswell, but honestly it works fine so i couldnt care less. i'm more concerned with it disconnecting me everytime i enter undercity than just a little typing error

I think that you have a misconception about how anomalies are handled. First of all, Rykhome is correct in saying that not every change gets put into the notes (otherwise there would never be undocumented changes - and there often are). Additionally, not every anomaly gets fixed.

A lot depends on the triage every problem goes through. Developers (actually their management) make a list of all the bugs, based on problem level and complexity. At the top is "Causes system failure - easy", and at the bottom is "Cosmetic change - extremely complex". Each change requires resources and testing, some of which takes many, many hours.

The cosmetic change you requested is probably more than moderate in its complexity, since it has the probability of changing the tooltip display for a large number of actions. If it isn't corrected in this patch, it will still be on the list and you will probably see it in the future.

I checked the tooltip on my Drain Life immediately before I posted, and it says, "Transfers X health per 0 seconds from the target to the caster. Lasts 5 seconds." I have 0 spell haste, and I wasn't under the effect of anything other than my normal self-buffs (Fel Armor, Demonic Knowledge, Master Demonologist, Soul Link). There IS a mistake in the tooltip.

OhMikeGhod is 100% correct. An error like this takes a back seat to more important things. I'm sure it WILL be fixed in time, but maybe not in the next patch. It's only a typo, since the spell still works right, so don't worry about it... :)

The list is actually a bit more complex than just Amount of damage/Amount of work. There is also a "noticeability" component. This is based on the number of complaints on an anomaly. As an ex-developer (not of games - I was on the commercial side), I had to figure that the more complaints there were on a problem, the higher the impact there was, and that item was raised on the list. However, we usually discounted repeated complaints by the same person - one person affected was still only one user. It was raised when a large number of users voiced the same complaint. Additionally, the amount of time a bug stayed on the "to-do" list raises it a bit.

Of course, the bug list is controlled by management, who has to allocate the resources (programming/testing/QC) to make the change. And management also has to allocate the resources necessary to make the version changes as well. Everything takes time and effort, and management is in charge of maximizing the work done by the people under them. While the list is generally made by programmers, where an item falls on that list is controlled by management.

Like most people, I read the title before I read the post... which kinda misled me. Never the less, I must agree with what many people above me have already said; there are more important things going on. Zul'Aman, Vengefull Gladiator, etc. As long as the spell works, who gives a darn.

I'm sure they'll change it in a later patch.
