So I'm wandering around Undercity last night, when a level nine rogue walks up to me and says, "el oh el, nice arena rating!"

Yeah, my arena ratings suck, for a bunch of reasons - not all of which have anything to do with me sucking.

A bit later, in Orgrimmar, I got wanded to death by a priest in full S2. heh. Meanwhile some shaman was yelling "Wand that *****, lol!"

I have crappy ratings and lousy gear. I got my *** kited to death by a priest who was much better than me. I know, I'm working on it. But for some reason this compels people to flex their e-peen at me.

I don't take it personally. I usually just don't respond to it. Sometimes I'll /ignore. And still, sometimes, I send the player a tell saying, "Alright, if you were me, how would you have done it?"

How do you guys respond to these shenanigans?

I usually try to goad them into fighting me (yea i know duels arent PvP :P). I've figured it like this.

There are only a few possible outcomes

1)You're clowning me and you're better than me, in which case when we fight you get nothing out of it and I learn something (or somethings) and I can use that to become better.

2) You're clowning me and you're not better than me, in which case when we fight and I own you, you learn a tad bit of humility (or not I couldn't care less) and I reaffirm my confidence in my ever increasing skills as I find someone else whose better than me to fight.

3) I get on here.

I think option 1 is the best outcome because I can actually get better.

Otherwise /ignore.

I never really lost so bad to people it warranted being made fun of...

Usually I was always fighting people who outgeared me as well. Up until full Merc I would usually only fight someone if they had 4-5 peices to me 1-3. I think that helps you in two ways. One, it shows you have balls to take on someone like that, and two, it softens the loss.

Never had low ratings so can't comment there Smiley: frown.

I feel obligated to post in this thread after a little incident last night without going into details, my Combat Swords build with pre-raid gear got accused of being a cooldown build which I thought was amusing cause only 2 things I burned was Evasion and AR. So I immediately dueled him again, and won with the other CDs.

Anyways to deal with **** talkers, just beat them, as simplistic as that sounds, if you lost the first (20) times, figure out what you are doing wrong and work on it.

But getting kited by a wanding Priest...

Imagine being a fresh 70 muti (crit reliant) rogue trying to bust through 300+ resilience on a priest who pops PW:S three times in one fight. I exaggerated when I said I was wanded to death, but the defeat was just as frustrating.

That's why you don't turn professional right after high school, so to speak.

I wasn't hanging out dueling if there was an upgrade I could have. I don't think I even began to duel much until I at least got in some honor gear and was just waiting on weekly arena points for my only upgrades.

people like to belittle others who haven't spent(read wasted) as much time as they have in the game. its everywhere, nub this noob that, l2play etc. Just play your game and ignore these people. I've found that most of the time they are just high school punks that have nothing else going in their life than this game and have to feel good about themselves some how. PvP is almost never a fair match, someone usually has the upper hand.

I try to duel people who outgear me by a fair margin or have respectable old-world pvp rankings. Usually they don't call you out for being a noob/nub (whatever) since they tend to have been around longer & aren't as idiotic as most of the newcomers. They are also more willing to give advice.

Otherwise, as has already been mentioned - just either ignore it or try to learn from it. Some people have nothing better to do than stand around & try to rip on other people. I remember when I was getting my epic mount some lowbie said "Why don't you have an epic mount" as I was on my way to buy one. And there was one warrior friend I had who - Despite the fact I lost 6 out of the 10 duels we had - put me on his ignore list after I beat him the last time because (and I quote) "You run around too much".

Some people are just strange...

What get sme about that comment is the "high school punk" line. Dude, i've been insulted/belittled etc by just as many "older/mature" people as i have by kids. Its just lucky that "old-wrinkle-d.i.c.k-reclaiming-lost-childhood" isn't the go-to steoretype the way "stupid kid" is.
I'm 18, but live on my own & pay my own bills, and i don't just go spouting unfounded bullsh*t. So as "mature" as you claim to be, you seme to be making an as out of yourself. (note i make no random claim about your age/gender/social life, simply maturity lvl)

And btw, if your getting insulted that much maybe you SHOULD L2Play. WoW-is-Srs-Bussines.

Holy crap in a system that uses the paper-rock-scissors-warlock approach to character class balance SOMEONE HAS THE UPPER HAND?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Get bent you idiot. Of course someone has the upper hand in PVP. Generally it's the person that loves PVP. Not dueling, mind you. Personally I don't duel all that much - I'd rather be questing or slaying Allies for Honor and HK's.

Besides in a duel there's no risk, there's no real fun in it for me anyway. Taking on another member of the Horde - I might if its a Guildie or if we're waiting for instance members or maybe the Zep. PVP? Hell yes. I love seeing someone run from a rogue four levels lower than them.

Silly clothies.

The players who are good don't talk **** because they expect to win vs most players.
The players who suck don't talk **** because they don't win very often.

The ones who talk **** are the ones who suck after playing this game 80 hours a week, have full Merc gear and so they get their jollies by talking trash when they beat undergeared people... the only ones they can beat.

we can use a parallel with people who are good at fighting (mma, cage, whatever you call it). Usually the people with skills are humble, friendly, w/e. Those with limited or worse, SOME skill are usually the ones doing the mad dogging and giving stinkeye. I'll leave the rationale to the budding psychologists.

I usually only duel people that I will probably lose to. I find those class matchups that are anti-rogue. I just use duels for practice since sometimes arena gets down to 1v1. My 5v5 earlier this week it came down to me and the MS Deep Thunder warrior... If I hadn't dueled every one in front of org for weeks I would have lost ratings not gained them.

I had a pally friend who used to talk about how rogues couldn't touch him, even in his mostly green/blue gear. At the time, I was full dungeon blues with 0 resilience, Mutilate specced. One day, the guild was ******* around outside Shatt, dueling eachother and whatnot, and he offered to duel me. He died before he had a chance to use his bubble, thanks to a massive Envenom crit. Needless to say, he didn't talk **** about rogues after that.

Put them in 400 resilience...

I don't lose, but the fight goes on for like, 12 minutes.
