Best melee weapon for stats?Follow

#1 Nov 08 2007 at 7:09 AM Rating: Default
Hi there, I've been using axes since i'm an orc and start with them but at lower levels or throughout higher levels too do any other types of weapons give more stats hunters want? I ask this because at the moment most axes seem aimed towards warriors. This may be a noob question but I don't know the answer so if it is I guess I'm a noob. However this is my first level 21 character so you can't expect me to know these things lol.

Ok allow Me..
READ THE STICKY!!!! And do some research.

With that said, 2H is better during PvP when you are going to run by with a Raptor Strike and a Wing Clip and go back to ranged, because that one attack you make will be much stronger, but dual wield can do as much autoattack damage. Pole arms at a higher level come with some good stats, so do axes. Take a look here and do some research: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/itemadvsearch.html?x

Seems like daggers turn out to be the best you can reasonably expect to get. By the time you're done questing to 70 and through Shadowmoon Valley, you should have a pair of glowing daggers with +agility and attack power/crit that you might or might not ever replace, depending on if your raid or not.

Is that really necessary? He said that he was on his first toon, he is just asking for some advice. I am on my fist toon also which is a hunter, though I'm a 65. I know how confusing this game is with all the abbreviations and other lingo that you first have to learn just to know what to research for.

I'm just saying if new people annoy you so much, just don't read or respond to their post.

How you interpreted that as telling you what to do, I don't know.

Oversensitive much?

I like a 6-poster getting in our faces! We deserve it.

(plus, anyone w/ that much moxie might make a great poster here - hope so)

There seem to be in the mid-levels a lot of "pole arms" made for hunters (why? I dunno). Some seem to have killer agi boosts.

There are times when you can opt for a free blue weapon w/ great raptor strike damage but imperfect stats (right, many are +str +sta, and we need +agi +stam).

Or you can go for "of the monkey" weapons off the AH. At the lower levels, especially if you are not parking for months to bg at a certain lvl, don't sweat it. Just get the best weap-stats you reasonably can and lvl, lvl, lvl.

If you mine and skin (or herb/skin) and have 20+gold, don't feel bad about occasionally buying a really nice upgrade item off the AH. But for the most part, as long as your gun/bow/xbow is decent, you'll be set for pve. The exception would be on a pvp server, where gear is more important - given that you never know when you'll need to fight players for your life.

If you're pve and just leveling, don't sweat it. You have the pet and your gun. We hunters aren't that gear dependent (save our range weapon). GL!

At lower levels, your melee weapons are a crapshoot. You can buy stuff off the AH, you can wait for a random world drop, an instance drop, or you can get the occasional quest reward. Once you hit the outlands and get to 70 and such, a 2H weapon is almost always better. 1H are a better option than they were with the +20 Agi, but you'd still have to fight to get 2 that match the stats of a 2H. For instance, I think an actual good option for a 1H would be Spiteblade, which drops off of Netherspite in Kara, but from what I hear it has a relatively low drop rate, and when it does drop, how are you going to look rolling on it against a rogue? Or a DW warrior? I took the DPS spreadsheet from TKA Something (I think) and calculated a few 1H combinations vs. my current weapon (Blackened Spear from Thrallmar rep), and while I don't remember how those ranked, I know that the 1H weapons from arena, with +20 agi, would theoretically give me the same DPS as my weapon.

So DW is possible, but I think getting a 2H is just easier, and you don't have to fight as much for it.

As far as type of weapon, I really don't think that matters. You'll hardly ever find a sword that has stats you want, so axes and polearms are usually the way to go. I had the crystalforged axe for a while, until I got my blackened spear. The sonic spear has refused to drop for me, so I gave up on that. As for raiding, Kara has legacy, of course (an axe), but I really don't think that's an enormous improvement over the blackened spear - except for the stamina. It is an improvement, though, so I'd gladly take it. Zul'Aman will have a 2H axe - Trollbane - that looks nice, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to get it. It's one of the timed rewards, and I don't know that my guild is serious enough to ever get good enough to get those timed rewards.

If he is a new Hunter, it especially applies to him. The only people I can forgive skipping stickies would be those with numerous seventies and experience with all three core class roles (healer, tank, dps).

However, the question was valid and should be answered as such. The answer is simple: Take the weapon with the best stats, then DPS, and finally good looks. It's that easy, really.

As if higher numbers of posts actually equal higher intelligence. I could sit here all day and reply to every topic. It wouldn't make me right. You're the one who actually PAYED to upgrade your site account, and we get to read this for free. For all you know, he has been playing since the early days of WoW and has fifty level 70 characters, but only felt compelled to write six items. I'm a bit tired of the caste system exists on these forums. Posts mean nothing. Sorry to be the one to break it to you.

Normally I would applaud this mentality towards a forum. Postcount doesn't mean much beyond forum experience. However, I am getting tired of seeing this kind of argumentation when I hear little but this kind of argumentation used as soon as someone tries to kick upwards. "lol 2k posts" argumentation seems to flourish. I will remind you of this post when you throw a temper tantrum towards those with four digits in their postcount.

Also, I pay Allakhazam because I am just immensely impressed with it's service. A gargantuan database system, coupled with so many community tools (like the forum you are posting in) and quality of information. And available for free. Thus, I decided to pay for this excellent product, which I have garnered so much information from. This site has saved me hours upon hours of work over the years, provided me with tons of information when I needed it, given me the pleasure of laughing at smacktards and tons of other virtual goodies.

Hell yeah I'm paying for this. Deciding not to pay for it is nothing short of leeching.

Ever thought you might tire somebody with that elitist bullsh*t?

Why exactly do you think that number of posts on some internet forum gives you right to act rude towards another human being?

You may flatter yourself that you have an attitude, but your 2 posts in this thread show just lack of manners and plain rudeness.

Ok, sorry if I stepped on anyone’s toes. But I remember way back when I posted a question and got stomped on and called huntard and the like. I looked and studied the posts plus did like everyone said and still could not get it to work. And the issue was a glitch with the game interface that prevented me from doing what the post said to do. It was corrected that next Tuesday by a patch. But still they jumped and stomped, and I did not start a flame war with them, it's not worth it. And no I do not have a bunch of 70’s hanging around the highest one is 56 at this time and I do not say I am the know all be all in wow, because I am not. Just take a little time and see if the issue can be found by reading and then if you cannot find the info you need; then ask.

Thank you for responding Alverian. Your reply shows that your not one of these elitist jerks.

This whole elitist attitude is just a sore subject for me. I like to instances (imo it’s the best part of the game) and it’s hard enough to get a group for mid 60's dungeon’s, or any dungeon for that matter. When you finally do get one you always get one guy that thinks everyone is a nub and everyone is doing everything wrong and just leaves (after telling everyone off), instead of helping newer people to improve. It just makes no sense to me, new people discover this game all the time and there will always be lesser experienced people that just want to get better.
