huntard pet questionFollow

Okay as my subject states, I'm sure this will fall under huntard questions, but if I tame a pet with say an ability like dash 3 and I've only had pets with dash 1, do I have to find a pet that can teach me dash 2 before I can teach my pet dash 3? Thx for the help and yes feel free to comment on my true huntardness

nope you can skip right to dash three.

A better example of this would be the scorpids. Alot of players had lvl 70 scorpids with scorpid sting rank 5 instead of rank 4.. they actually had to go get the rank 4 scorpid after they found out rank 4 was better than rank 5.... make sense?

sweet exactly what I was hoping, thx

because rank 4 lasts for 10 seconds and does slightly less damage per tic as opposed to rank 5 that does more damage but only lasts for 8 seconds.

The objective is to keep it up for the whole fight so 10 seconds gets you much more time to use it than 8 seconds.

but if the scorp is repeatedly attacking wont the poison be repeatedly applied?
It is not applied every "autoattack", but is on it's own cooldown. Eight seconds have proven to be too short for a scorpid to consistantly keep up the first stack. Now, after the "normalization" it isn't an issue anymore, but it used to be rather imperative to have Rank 4 Scorpid Poison if you intended to use the... well, I'd almost call it an exploit myself. Trinket, Bestial Wrath and all manner of impressive AP buffs combined would make that first stack so powerful that if you managed to keep it ticking until the end of the bossfight, the DPS would be enormous.

Scorpids are vasty inferior to other pets now after the nerf, so their poison doesn't matter much anymore. Very viable example though, since I myself found me screaming at the top of my lungs when I realized I missed rank 4. Had to fly all the way to Silithus and tame a little bugger.

Wait...

Coherent, accurate, and even readable posts, from SoK?

!!

Who are you and what have you done with SoK?

To add some minor detail to his accurate posts, the goal with Scorpids was not just to keep the poison DOT going. It was to keep the enhanced poison DOT going. The DOT would tick based on the damage it had when applied. So Hunters would pop Talents and Trinkets with cool downs to improve the damage, and then use the rank 4 duration to improve the odds of keeping the enhanced damage DOT continuing.
