so.. I started a priest... after a few months from WoW, and I was wondering if its viable to level one without taking up any shadowtalents, except spirit tap, wich I see as a very useful tool.

So, get your heads together and help this priestnoob with this problem.

I have an alt working on it as we speak. They say it's a little slower, but as it is an alt I always have fully rested exp on my side.

No real reason I'm leveling Holy other than being rebellious (without a cause) I suppose.(I did "cheat" a little with spirit tap and wand spec)

It's perfectly viable, you'll have an easier time healing as well. Admittedly you won't lvl quite as fast as you would going shadow but it's not that big of a difference.

Ive found Leveling a priest is slower in comparison to other classes I have leveled.

I leveled 1-70 as disc/holy. Yes, you can do it. You will have to know your limits as far as what mobs to take on.

When you get higher, you will gain +damage from your +healing gear (come on patch!!), so things should actually be easier for you than it was for me.

I suppose it's doable.
Would be easier if you went with a Lolsmite build, that way you get better healing and still have some extra damage (Getting a crit Smite then flinging off a Free instant cast smite right after it = fun :) )

When I started my priest my intention was to level as holy/disc, I'd just finished levelling my paladin and I'd found that tough going. My interest in playing a priest was to heal though so I wasn't interested in any shadow talents other than spirit tap.

Compared with my paladin I am finding it easier going oddly, post 40 especially; my paladin's dps relative to mobs hp dropped, this has also happened on my prist and this is perhaps where the +damage would come in handy. Then again I'm also told I can't grind as a holy priest but I knock out 10-20% of the end of a level, admittedly having to recharge my manner every 2-3 mobs.

If your intention is PvE then I don't see any reason why it should be seriously tougher than many other classes, it does require more patience though and picking your fights carefully - or teaming up with someone regularly especially if you're used to fast killing and levelling... having said that I'm not known for my patience but overall this has been my favourite class.

If you do it expecting it to be real easy then you'll lose that impression quickly , after all you're not a mage or lock... but I'd say in comparison to my friend who's gone shadow to level the difference doesn't seem to be that big.

And here I was afraid of getting the lable of an idiot. Thanks for the replies gals/guys.

I got fed up with my warlock, so i took a break from him creating a little PvP-twinkypink-rogue. then i got bored with the game.
And now, half a year later I though, why not a PvE-priest?

so, here I am asking stupid questions. I know I'll get into instances easy enough. And I know that a priest ain't no warlock/mage, I wasn't expecting that.

Now that i know it's possible to do this, are there any key talents that are important to choose while leveling, other than the five points in spirit tap? going either holy/disc or 41+ into holy.

any suggestions??

In my limited experience I would say load up wand spec. even before spirit tap.
Scrimp, save or subsidise to get a Lesser Magic Wand then as soon as you can a Greater Magic Wand.

Smite/MB, SW:P, bubble, Smite/MB, Wand to death.

Take any +Spi gear you can find

I have a 40 spriest, 30 Holy and lately a 20 Disc - the latter has spent enough time in WSG to get cloak, neck and two ring blues. She has NO points in Spirit Tap!! 5/5 Wand Spec, 3/3 Imp PW:S and 2/2 Martyrdom.

Not saying this is the best; but so far levelling has been easy enough. Wanding gives me enough time out of cast for mana to regen by itself.

I've leveled my holy priest from 1-68(almost there!) so yes, it's very possible to level holy.

I have 5/5 spirit tap, 5/5 wand spec and the other three points are going to be in the threat reduction talent in the discipline tree. I can't think of what it's called right now.

I'm alot heavier in the holy tree than the cookie cutter holy priest build, but I highly recommend it if you're going out questing alone. It will improve your damage and healing enough to make your life a little easier while leveling. You can always respec out of some of the damage talents and into discipline later for things like divine spirit and improved divine spirit. They're very useful and desired in raids and 5-man groups.

Good Luck!

There's not a single spec of any class that you can't level to 70 with. Some are in fact faster due to higher dps, lower downtime and other factors. All are possible to reach end cap lvl. Some will say it's more boring to level with a slower build but the truth is if you enjoy the playstyle then it's funner. Time doesn't usually matter and when it is then it's to catch up to friends or guildies. In that case you can always use the faster spec to level and just respec after you catch up.

If you don't enjoy your spec you're no longer playing a game you're doing a job.

Full Discipline with only Spirit Tap and Improved Renew is loads of fun and makes for easy and fast grinding with no downtime.

And the Improved Renew is for healing in groups, non-essential for pure soloing.
