Rogue or Hunter?Follow

#1 Nov 06 2007 at 10:01 AM Rating: Decent
Hey all,

I really dont know what to choose..
I was thinking of going Rogue since they can stealth, sap, attack from no where, dodge alot, vanish, ETC!
But Hunters, they got traps, flares, pets, different range skills ETC too!
I'm not going to PvP much though, exept when I'm in the 19s,29s,39s,49s,59s...plus at 70 I'll PvP lots ofc, help me out guys! :(

If you're not going to PvP a lot, I'd say hunter. Leveling is easier for them, and while they don't top damage meters in instances, usually, they don't have to deal with the problems inherent to being a melee fighter.

Bad hunters don't end up in top end of DPS charts; Rogues typically do better DPS as a finisher rotation is a hell of alot easier to maintain than a shot rotation. Both can DPS very well in a PvE setting.

Keep in mind, this isn't the pre-BC Hunter where the only reason to bring them was for filler or a tranq. shot.

PvP I have no idea, I would imagine they'll do well in 3s bracket with the new changes.

Right, rogues top DPS charts...but if you're not a rogue that's not so important to you. Hunters have handy little offtanks and traps in case casters get sloppy. Shot rotations are hard, but you're not going to die if you slip a little. Rogues, on the other hand, will die immediately if they jump the hate list, or they'll get pwned if they don't run out of certain AoE's, or position themselves just right to handle a knockback. My point is that a casual hunter is less of a liability as a casual rogue, imho.

If you are grabbing aggro when you start raiding after leveling 1-70, and running instances, the excuse better be I am not familiar with the tank. In other words, most raiding DPS classes know their respective threat ceilings that shouldn't be an issue unless you (in the general sense) are just facerolling the keyboard.

It honestly seems to me that, if you want to be Mister Damage Guy during instances, Warlock is the way to go. Yes, a rogue will beat them in an all-things-equal dps match, but the difference in damage seems worth sacrificing for the sake of a ranged fighter.

Though honestly, I effin hate PvE and should probably avoid this topic all together. I'm more ignorant than knowledgeable when it comes to this.

I say do both. It shouldn't take too long to get both to 20, and then you will have a feel for what both entail and will be able to make a better decision.

Speaking from someone who has both...

I'd say that it depends on what you like. As stated, it's probably a good idea to take both to 20 and see which you like... but I find that both don't start shining until the 30s (or at least didn't for me).

I will say that if you like melee and getting up in your mob's face, hunter definitely isn't for you (I know this seems obvious, but you'd be surprised how many idiots try to roll melee hunters). As stated, it's very viable for PVE with high survivability... but it takes skill for PVP.

I've found my rogue much easier to PVP with (not that it takes no skill, just that it's more intuitive) and less viable for solo-play... although both are WICKED fun to play =) I haven't played the hunter seriously for about two weeks now after getting hooked on the rogue, lol.

Anyway, I hope this helps! I'm pretty sure you'll love both.

I personally would advise a hunter, i dont know about all of your servers but mine has too many rogues. were completely overplayed here.
When i was trying to find a good raiding guild, i got eight rejections because they had too many rogues.

My server is 50% Rogues, I'll go Hunter for sure! :D
Thanks so much for replying guys...you've all helped me out ALOT. and all the comments were useful ^^
Once again, thank you!!!

This is the correct answer to the thread.

I've never seen a druid carry an ammo pouch/quiver.

"I've never seen a druid carry an ammo pouch/quiver"

I say just try to decide from this;
Do you want to do PvP or just train and get new abilities, and get to level whatever you want?
Do you want to sneak around and backstab people or shoot them from a distance and send in your pet?
Do you want to actualy OWN a pet or not? If you're not to bothered about the pet then choose rogue.
Are you going to be going solo or with groups?
If you had to go groups to get an item or quest let's say, do you want to go in there, sneak around and deal the main damage, or draw the enemys away, so your whole group can attack them aswell as you?
Do you want leveling to be harder at the start, Hunter, and easier later on, or easy at the start, Rogue, and harder later on?

Hope that helps, if not, then my response will then be: Don't ask me.

"Druids don't play at all like a hunter"

Doesn't negate the fact they both attack from afar?

Are you smoking crack? If so, share.

Hunters and Druids play absolutely nothing alike aside from the fact that both can be Night Elves or Tauren. Oh! And they both start in leather.

Just because they are both capable of range does not mean they 'play the same'. That's like saying that because a Warrior and a Palli use swords they play the same. Bull. They play nothing alike.

Who said they play alike?
