Right now I am using a Boar, and I love it for "Charge". The daze effect is really helpfull, and I definately prefer "Gore" to all physical pet attacks due to it's change for double damage. I am also interested in trying out a Wind Serpent, I hear Lightning Breath can be pretty nasty when specced properly. Anyone use a Wind Serpent as their primary PvP pet?

I had a windserpent from 46 to 64, he always did a good job delaying a caster's cast time, but he did seems a little too fragile. Lightning breath is cool though, cuz it's fun to watch a scared player try to ride away with yer serpent casting lightning at them. I tamed a raveger the other day, I'm still waiting to see how he does in a BG though.

I used a cat from 10 - 30. Enjoyed playing with him, but then I decided to get a Wind Serpent. Some things were fun, others irritated me like Lightning Breath pulling mobs to me. I used him to 62, then I got a Ravager, which I've been using now. The Ravager is doing a lot more dps but he's more fragile right now as he's not Best Friend yet so I can't put all my abilities on him. I like how my Ravager looks the best.

I love my boar. I can't use anything else.

I can't even feel right getting a new boar. I found a 49 boar that already had the charge and gore I wanted, but abandoned it and waited for my own to level up.

I could not possibly use a pet that didn't have charge. Concussive shot, scorpid sting, arcane shot, charge. Pet takes aggro of more than 5 times what I just did, then manages to hold it with growl off, and gore and bite on.

I ran to dreani starting area when i dinged lvl.10 (im a BE and it was a walk) and im currently level 33, and i have to say the ravager iis prob my favorite pet PvE and PvP, great dmg looks badass and im the only one my level ive seen to have one. lowest level ive seen people with ravagers was at like mid 50's. So sweet looking, and also my gf loves her snow lepeord from khranos (she BE aswell). Pets from the opposite faction are nice to have in low levels cuz everyone always comments on em and ask how u got it.

Id have to say my favorite pets are Cats, Croclisks, and, i guess Owls. My cat Daniel is great for raiding, and has prowl for PVP, blends with my shadowmeld. My croc Tealc is so badass. <3 Him. They dont have much abilities, but ahve loads of armor and can tank well if your BM hunter. And Owls have Screech, lets me run lowbies through BRB and such.

I've tried raptors, boars, cats, and wolves. The best though, is an owl.

Having multiple mobs on the pet is no problem anymore with screech. I can throw a mend pet on him, or even get a multi shot off without pulling aggro. It's the finest AOE aggro grabber ever.

My two favorite pet families would have to be boars and warpstalkers. Both of these pets are capable of getting to their target very quickly, more so than a pet with dash. And I’ve found I really like that in a pet, more so than I expected. They both have instant attacks which allow them to do more DPS, as my hunters buy skills to regenerate pet focus more quickly. And they both hold up well as tank pets, though I believe the numbers favor the boar more in this area. Thus I have boars and warpstalkers on more than one hunter.

If we just want to talk aesthetics I would have to add some more pets into the mix. I love the combination of my pink tallstrider with my female dwarf. Sweetpea is the reason I’m playing that character. But she doesn’t hold agro as well as Cashara’s green warpstalker. This will be a bit better when Sweetpea gains her last three levels. But I expect that Growf will still be the better choice when holding agro is a major issue, such as soloing the escort quest after the bombing run.

I also really like my albino crocalisk and my black widow spider. But they too suffer from a lack of abilities that make their skill as tanks a bit less effective than some of the other current pets. I hope this will one day change, but after three years I’ve decided to stop holding my breath.

I like my Raptor from Blade's Edge. He dishes quite a bit of damage for me and I like his idle animation. He clicks his talons on the ground when he is standing still.

My two favorite pets are cats and raptors. My cat is a beast who can deal very respectable damage, though he is a little fragile. My raptor is more robust and can take more of a beating while at the same time dealing more damage than my cat.

I had a few ravagers for a while after getting to Outland and while I loved their DPS output they had the defense capabilities of a 12 year old girl. So I promptly dropped the ravager and now use a scorpion with incredible Armor Rating for those times I need a tanking pet.

Ravager, Raiding/5man.

Owl, Soloing.

Basically my favorite pets are the ones that perform the best. I don't really care about skin. This is just me though. Wow "fun" for me is to perform at peak efficiency.

I like turtles...

Seriously though, post above me is my exact sentiments...

Lets not forget Boar is very nice up till 29, but past that Owl is going to get Dive (equivilent of Dash) which I actually prefer, and his base stats IMO are the best out there for general grinding/questing.

I miss my boar Snowflake. I miss her lots.

For some reason I started Outlands using my Purple cat from Winterspring (which I also love) and forgot to ever take my boar out of the stables til I hit 70 :*( For some reason I thought I wanted to try out a ravager and a wolf instead of leveling my boar from 60-70 so I abandoned Snowflake. What a mistake. The ravager definitely gets the job done dps wise, but it is so damn ugly. I should have kept the boar for soloing and off-tanking stuff and the cat for dps. Ah well.

I just hope Blizzard gives us a new tamable boar with the expansion! I don't like the skin of the level 60 boar so I'm sorta stuck.

You could simply take the time to level a lower boar. The ones in the Blasted Lands look good enough.

If you want a black, not-undead looking one though.. good luck.

Yeah that's the skin I had. I really want a black skin though, but I know I don't have the time to level one of the lowbie ones from Durotar. Perhaps I'll park my hunter in the Blasted Lands and keep an eye out for Grunter. I don't play her much right now, so logging her out there could work ...

As an update to my search for Grunter. I camped out in the Blasted Lands all day yesterday and today, only leaving when I had to sleep. This afternoon I was in my usual spot, using general chat to let the other alliance know not to kill Grunter. I went afk for 5 minutes to grab food, only to come back and find out Grunter had spawned while I was gone and was killed by a Horde player. Needless to say I was mad :S

I may have to just go with the plain old yellow boar, trying to be there to catch a 32-40 hour respawn just might not be possible :(

As someone else said: Ravager = Raiding/5-man

I will disagree on the second part though.

Boar = Farming/Solo No other pet in the game generates as much initial threat as a boar with charge and gore. I didn't care for the undead boar from EPL so I sucked it up and got a brown armored boar from SFK. As I am 65 and it was 25, this will be quite a hike to get it level with me, but I love the look. I named him Cerebus.

Tip: For those of you in your 60s that are dumb enough to tame a low level animal because you like the look (like me), go to Veil Skith just south of Shattrath and farm Skithian Dreadhawks. I suggest the Dreadhawks because they will always fight you from range so you can use your most effective attacks. Since your pet is basically useless and you are very handicapped in melee, staying at range is a must.
