2H raiding gearFollow

#1 Nov 05 2007 at 4:21 PM Rating: Decent
I want to start raiding shortly, im very partial to 2h weapons and im tired of tanking so im looking to dps now. my question is what level dungeons can i do (ie. high 5-mans, low heroics, high heroics, etc.) and what gear should i look to upgrade. feel free to check the armory in the sig, any recommendations from talent builds to gear is appreciated. i have tanking gear that was kara level blues if needed for off tanking since i started out prot so that wont be a problem if im needed in case of an emergency.

I've always found that actually reading the sticky that's titled "Gear List: lvl 70 and Kara gear check." is a great help.

im sorry let me rephrase that, ive read the guides and im aware of the gear, my main concern is as to where i stand with my gear now. im not very good at all at figuring out my current stats verse where i should be so im trying to find a little insight to get me started. ive also seen a few talent builds around and im pretty confident i can find a good build. it was a rushed post :(

In terms of stats, go here and compare yourself. See what you need to work on getting. You don't need to have exactly the stats but somewhere near it.

Scroll down to the 4th post.

Ah! The only thing I see that would worry me is your hit, it's quite low. The rest of it looks pretty good, though replacing those gloves would be high on my list. Just check the sticky and try to make sure you have something from that list in each slot.

Also, drop Imp. Intercept and grab Imp. Slam. Learn to use Slam, learn to love Slam. Since you're going to be raiding, pick up Imp. Thunderclap which will helpful in off-tanking. Also, you may want to think about dropping Blood Frenzy (as most of the mobs in Kara are immune to it) and Second Wind in favor of going deeper into Fury for Flurry (you may want to consider dropping TM too to be able to completely fill out Flurry).

Other than that, my biggest recommendation would be to spend some time dpsing in 5-mans and get use to being a dps and not a tank (it was fairly difficult for me since I've been a tank pretty much my entire FFXI and WoW career).

*edit: hehe, forgot I posted that on the shaman boards.*

Your profile has tanking gear on at this point in time. the helm and the shoulders...

Check out the ragesteel set from black smithing. If you get the hands and the shoulders you'll upgrade your dps considerably. If you don't already have it, the helm of second sight quest chain in SMV is one of the best pre-epic helms you can find.

You don't need to worry about Sta at all if your wearing plate warrior dps gear. it comes with more than enough for you to be viable in pve dps. so all of the 12 sta gems you have can be subbed for something else...

I have to ask, is this a pvp set and build?

You really need to work on your blacksmithing for an epic BoE 2h. This is where a majority of your DPS will come from.

You need more crit. You need more AP. You need more Hit.

With your current gear you should resort to tanking 5 mans (heroic and otherwise) and collect a sizable amount of your 3 main dps stats; Str/AP, Agi/crit, Hit. You want at least 5% to hit, I really recommend 8.6% to hit (cap your pve hit rating) though. Resiliance is pointless in pve (for the most part... you'll be in tanking gear if your OTing seriously).

The ragesteel set is by far a clear upgrade overall. But I think the helm of second sight is better than the ragesteel helm for pve dps.

::EDIT::

Your spec has some specific PvP talents. You don't need second wind for dps. TM is for the most part not needed, you should be in berserker stance 99% as DPS.

::EDIT 2::

Flurry is your best PvE DPS boosting talent. Spec it.

well you all confirmed most of what i assumed, but thank you for the insight. im aware some of my gear is still tanking, but i figured most is good enough for now for 5-man DPS. i just got back into the game so thats why my skills are so low, only a few days work.

also looking at that post from ryu i now realize that sta isnt as large of a factor when im DPSing, something i didnt first understand/bother to change when i socketed for damage. im going to update my gems, respec and hopefully add a piece or two of new gear to the setup shortly. but devious, going by that post also, am i not only a bit off statwise for DPSing? i know i have a few tanking pieces but they only offset a little bit, mainly my hit. i think well be able to better tell when i respec and resocket and such.

it was a partial pvp build because i came back to wow and came out of tanking into some casual pvp with my friends. i havent DPSed since low level and am just now learning the DPSing tactics im finding throughout the forums. hopefully much improvemet can be made. thank you all so far, ill try to keep an update.

Well, honestly, I've seen much worse. So you have the right idea. I was just pointing out what I saw.

But for DPS every point counts. Sadly, we have to treat ourselves as a Rogue with a 2h to do competent DPS. Just focus on Str and crit for 2h. It's pretty simple. Get enough hit rating that you don't feel like every other hit is a miss, and your crit rating will take care of itself.

And specifically for hit rating and 2h's, you only really need about 80 hit rating to be effective in a DPS job. But you'll want about 134 hit rating as a arms spec.

This will change when 2.3 comes out. I haven't done the math for it yet, but they are eliminating +weapon skill rating from the game, and weapon mastery will be changed.

ok helms updated and resocketed gems, i still want to work on those BS crafted armor and such but ill get to that later.

ill ask before i go off topic in here, but is there a post that tells you HOW to dps well instead of WHAT you need to dps? i understand the "attack - slam - attack - slam" idea, but im sure there are other skills and talents to use in there. havent seen one in my browsing of the forums yet, but maybe i just went blind.
