Yeah FFXI was a horrible abortion of a game. I tried picking it up again after a year of wow just to say hello to some people, I think I played 30 minutes before I cancelled my account again.

Good luck Jack, we'll miss you. Thanks for the FAQ and all of the advice you've given on the forums.

What's the thing about getting stickied on Alla? Cathela has vanished, you quit playing... I myself stopped touching my lock shortly after getting stickied on board 9.

Geez.

Take care mate. As for FFXI, similar experiences as Bodhi here. Went back once, chatted to my old LS while LFG in Jeuno, said my farewells 2 hours later without ever getting a group, shift-deleted the playonline folder, never looked back.

To be fair, FFXI had good synergy in normal fights, you had to time your abilities with other people in order to maximize your damage output which I thought was pretty cool. Also, I definately learned how to dodge Aggro after all the running through high level areas with mobs that could one-shot me. It also teaches you how to group very early in the game, cause *****-ups get punished hard.

And like I said earlier, I'm still gonna stick around on the forums. So I can keep getting my WoW fix.

You know what's the best way to get a WoW fix? Play WoW.

:P

@Dil, what makes you think I'm going to die before you do? *laughs maniacally* Oh... right, skribs' earlier comments.

Tanks are always the first to die :)

I used to play FFXI... Taru DRG baby! Just the image of a taru flying through the air trying to whack a mob on the head with a polearm was just too amusing to pass up.

Pretty ironic. I had stopped for about 2 months and just started again last weekend. :P I was glad to talk with some guildmates again, but I definitely needed the break. Seems like some of them got more mature in a short period of time.

All I can say is, use your break from WoW well, enjoy life and be happy. I'm sure you'll come back sometime once you feel you've dealt with the things you wanted to. :)

Oh yes. I remember. FFXI, the premier Wallhugging simulator. The first run from San'Doria to Windy was definitely an experience.

I have different memories of Valkurm here. Quite different. Ended up as a beastmaster because I enjoyed the experience so much.

Sorry to hear it- you were an inspiration to many.
At least you're staying on polls. I need your wisdom xD.

I quit last month and if all goes well i'll have a pretty nice paying job next week. WoW is still on my machine, but i needed to pull my head out of my **** till i sorted things out proper.

It's usually after Quifm that people stop being *****-ups. That's at least what I've experienced. Cause the 10% experience hit reallllly sucks.

Ha ha ha ha... All this talk about FFXI. Friend of mine actually talked me into coming back to that game after I gave up WoW. I guess I outlasted most of you by letting my account run for two weeks, but it shouldn't really count since I only played a couple hours spread out over a couple days. The game's just too damn inconvenient.

I really don't think there's any MMO I'll be able to play aside from WoW anymore. For all the grief we all give Blizzard on a constant basis, it's still far and away the best product out there.

Honestly, I just need a break. My classes are hard this semester (Social Science Statistics pwns my ***), and this past summer I really rode the game hard. I'm burnt out. Any spare time I do happen to find I've been spending trying to get through an impressive library of never-completed console RPG's. Remember kids, that's what we old folks called "altoism" before MMO's.

I'll be back eventually. You're in denial if you think you won't be. Maybe it'll be 2.3. Maybe it'll take as long as the release of the next expansion. But we all come back eventually.

Ahahah, try playing it at launch. it was 25% exp hit back then. . . .
and every american playing that game had never played an MMO before, they were all console junkies who all wanted to be the hero . . . i blame the title of the game.

after playing for 3 months i acheived a whopping lvl 12 toon because of it . . . needless to say i quite for 3 years and much had changed when i came back. the game was actually fun for a time, but around the time that AH'ing mob drops didnt support my gear is when the game went down hill, like 30+. after that its a full time job for the money to fit into the gear everyone expects you to have.

Hi I understand why you are quitting. I did so myself a half year ago, I took a 3 month break. After my return I raidet a couple of months, and came to the same conclution as you, that the hunt for minor upgrades and the farming for reputation (daylies) just got borring. So now I just play all casual like with my paladin - when I have the time for it.

I feel you on all that stuff. Being in the military makes me take a few "unplanned" breaks. From training dets to the real deal I am gone half a year easy. Its not fun.

But when I get back off the cruddy boat with horrible internet and lack of desire for anything other than exercise... you tend to want to try the old stuff again. So when I play WoW again I get a fresh start every couple of months or so lol.

Good Luck getting your life together. I am glad to hear some people agree the same as my guild. RL is always more important than a stupid instance or a stupid game.(Not saying I think WoW is stupid... just if it effects RL) Have fun... You only live once.

I just cam across this post...HOLY CRAP...*sigh* why do people announce that they are quitting? if your really quitting and moving on to other aspects of your life, then stop posting and do it...SHEESH...*sigh* pet peeve of mine i guess :)
#43 Nov 29 2007 at 8:40 PM Rating: Good
if such a big pet peeve why take time to read it or even post about it?

A lot of people ask me for advice and I feel that it's necessary for me to let them know that I'm not currently playing the game. It's a big deal for me, so instead of a ding thread or a "Oh look I got this" thread, it's a "Hey I won't be playing anymore" thread. It's one topic out of a million, and it aint hurtin anybody.

So to quote Dil.... shoo.

Im actually taking a break as well. My major goal atm to clear and farm kara has been done and i think now im a little burnt out on raiding. I will probably do my dailies whenever i can remember them, and the occasional battleground when im on to build maybe to a Glad set to mess with but I think im done for a bit too.

Thanks for all the help CapJack. I'm sure we all appreciate it. Goodluck on sorting things out in RL. Once again, that is much more important. I'm kind of on the flipside of the coin. I'm looking to get back into WoW after being gone for about 6 months the second I get my affairs all in order. I will be starting a Paladin on my brother's server where my brother apparently has a 70 Rogue already :P
