I'm QuittingFollow

#1 Nov 05 2007 at 11:54 AM Rating: Decent
After some thinking about it and soul-searching and realizing how much time I'm actually investing in this game in lieu of doing other things, I have decided to quit the game. It's been fun while it lasted, but spending hours upon hours of time in order to get gear that will make me marginally better at the game just really isn't worth it. I might pick it up again in the summer or when the expansion comes out, but I really need to focus on other aspects of my life.

Having said that, I'll probably still be on the boards as frequently as I have been, just know that I won't be playing anymore. If I do decide to give up the boards as well, which I don't think I will, I will probably hand over the code to the FAQ to someone else and have the Forum admins switch it out.

I'm a casual player... never really did any of the big instances, and most of my gear sucks by comparison to others... but it's still fun. As an alternate game, I started playing Hellgate: London, which is pretty fun and solo-able.

If you leave, good for you... so what are you going to be doing in place of WoW?

I'm not really going to be playing anything else, I need to focus on school/work/relationships and WoW was cutting into all of that.

JACK!

Man, I've only been using the forms for a month but your advice has been priceless. Glad to see you'll stick around on them!

Hope to see you back in playing this summer!!
Have fun.

Your character will still be there, so theres no harm in leaving.

You've made the right choice, you can't give up social life for a game.

Welcome to retirement, Jack. I've been off the WoW for about two months myself in more or less the same situation you're in. Not playing anything else, just too damn busy with school, etc.

Have your people call my people. We'll get together and play shuffleboard sometime.

Gonna miss ya Jack. Well, I would if I was on your realm. And if I actually ever met you on that realm. Ok, so not really gonna miss ya since I never played the game with ya, and you're still gonna be on the forums, but still :P I needed to say something! hehe.

Thought about hanging up my account as well, but every time I do I get reminded about how much fun it is and come right back >.> Maybe if I had more stuff to occupy my time <.< Anyways, best of luck in your RL stuff, that should always come first!

Just said goodbye to my guild. One of them wanted to buy my account, another wanted me to give them my gold. I was hoping for a heartfelt moment with crying and hugging and a nice little song in the background, but whadda ya gonna do?

I also logged out in my tanking gear with my tanking spec cause I know a lot of people look at it. I hope I can keep it up, last time I gave up an MMO (FFXI) I immediately replaced it with another one (WoW).

Also, bodh is prophetic:

Yes, Wow a game that can make one addicted.Occasionally take a rest from the game is a great idea .As monthly subscription don't come cheap either.Nowsday,I too make a switch to play Hellgate:London .Not bad a game with some similarity with Wow in term of buying equipment, questing , leveling up and so forth.Another alternative I guess .Unless, one that are crazy in getting best gear and equipment to boost up his character in Wow.As long you don't delete the character you can come back anytime you like if you miss them after sometime...

Oh I missed the part about you staying on the forums...that's good. I need a good prot pally to help me grow as I level. If you left the forums I'd hunt you down and break both your kneecaps so you couldn't do much else but play :P
(jk I know RL is important)

As one of our most illustrious Paladins so eloquently put it recently, "Shoo."

Have fun in your time away Jack. Though I know the cravings will get you and soon enough you'll be eating brainsplaying WoW again.

Best of luck with your real life pursuits, I know I always had to turn off the game come exam time while in university. The good news is that it is not FFXI, regardless of whether you are gone 2 months or 9 your account will still be there so don't be afraid to log back in once things calm down.

Failing that you can send me your sh'it.

FFXI now saves your account info, so if I wanted to I could go back, but I'm not going to. 8 hour grinds on the same mob to get half a level with a party that may or may not be incompetant but nevertheless I have to live with just doesn't seem fun anymore.

@Dil, what makes you think I'm going to die before you do? *laughs maniacally* Oh... right, skribs' earlier comments.
