hey I have a 65 rogue on a pvp server. the reason i mention that i'm on a pvp server is that i'm having some difficulties deciding which weapons i should use and the fact that i like ganking lowbies and i like being able to put up a good fight when i'm the one ganked. for most of my rogue life i was sub; a dagger in the main hand and whatever i could find in the off hand. somewhere in the 40s a friend told me to go swords; i did and i loved it, stuck to it, and i've used it up till now. problem is it's gotten a bit boring and i can't find decent swords. i've been using 2 Footman's Longswords for a while but great daggers keep crossing my path and ive been so tempted to use them. so today i changed my spec to assa and equipped the Ceremonial Warmaul Blood-Blade i got today, along with Adamantite Daggger or somethin i found on the ah. i had some fun ganking lowbies in stv, but when i went back to lvling later, i found that it was harder than i expected it to be, and i was almost positive i would be doing a lot more damage with my swords. should i go back to swords or give daggers another chance?

and btw, great stickies! i took a look at them and they answered a lot of questions that have been stuck in my head for a while, along with some tips i'll use since im lvling up a rogue which will be my 29 twink

Mutilate is a very good grinding build. You really do need good stats to pull it off, though, as it's still the most gear dependent build rogues have. Your weapons are the most important thing. Get the hardest hitting, slowest daggers you can find.

gear dependent...i guess you mean i have to know what i need first? lol i still haven't sorted out what exactly i need (ap, stam, crit, etc.) for the weapons, like i said earlier, i'm just going with what i can get. i threw away all the daggers i've gotten before, except for the new one i got. that's 1.9 speed, is that slow in terms of a dagger? i'm not sure exactly why i didn't do as much damage as before, because imo my stats are pretty fair right now, but i'm not sure. maybe you could rate my character? here's my armory link http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Skullcrusher&n=Aardax i was comparing my damage with the sword and without, so currently i have the sword equipped, but the other dagger i picked up was Adamantite Dagger, 1.7 speed 55 dps

1.9 speed is the slowest dagger possible. However I can't see it in your armory.

And being full assassination spec, swords?

I would say that your biggest problem is being 56 points into assassination. Seriously, you don't need that many points especially since you could easily augment your damage with another tree and still keep mutilate.

For starters, you don't need imp backstab if you've got mutilate because mutilate > backstab end of discussion. Better Combo Point generation, better damage, etc.

Deadened nerves is really a gimicky talent and a waste of 5 talent points better spent elsewhere.

This would be a better example of what you need for mutilate:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/rogue/talents.html?0053201055501025010513023050020000000000000000000000000000000000000

Your damage will start to shine as you put the last 5 points into dual wield spec which is kinda why your damage is gimped to begin with. You could instead take the pvp build with 15 points in sub instead to pick up opportunity which will increase your mutilate damage now rather than later but your OH white damage is still going to suck, and the combat version in terms of PVE does better in the long run on bosses.

Check out some of the builds in the stickies above. Those guys have much more experience than me, and I've tried the stuff and it works. Those builds may seem cookie cutter but they're cookie cutter because they are good.

On a side note, for leveling, mutilate is going to be your strongest attack and you'll want to use all the moves that let you take your enemies back. You may be better off using a crippling poison so you can still use gouge and get the poison damage bonus. And spec something like this:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/rogue/talents.html?3053001050501325110513023050020000000000000000000000000000000000000

Imp Kidney is usually not considered the greatest talent, but in this case it will help increase your damage as you level until you get dual wield spec. Put on 2 wounding or crippling poisons or one of each and use the following combat rotation:

Cheap Shot-> Cold Blood -> Mutilate -> Kidney Shot -> Mutilate -> Eviscerate

If it's not dead then it's nearly dead and you can wait for energy, gouge, and mutilate it again. Good luck and hang in there. It gets more fun as you go.
