Hey ignore subject lol.
anyway, im starting up a rogue with another friend. We will both be rogues. Anyway he will be going combat, I will be going assassination. I need a build that will be good for lving, here is what i came up with http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=fGecoExoqz0oG0E00V
feel free to rip it apart, i don't know a lot about rogues tbh. I also want to know in this build how i should be fighting. for example, i was thinking i should do cheap shot, backstab, gouge, backstab, kidney shot, mutilate, or something to that effect lol. anyway, it will be with two daggers obviously, but what do you think?

Why would you use Backstab if you could be using Mutilate?

I would also recommend leveling as combat first, and using swords with ss.

You can re-spec to mutilate when you are the appropriate level.

Ditto.

Mutilate is interesting, but combat swords for leveling. It is less exciting, but much less painful. Leveling daggers of any kind is kind of like S&M.

what if i happen to like S&M? :D lol jk
anyway is it really that bad? well once i hit 50, is mutilate build then not so... painful? remember i will be leveling with my friend so, would it sitll be painful to lv as assass?

also, if i did go combat, would combat maces be good? i like that 3 sec stun, looks pretty nifty

Combat Maces will be a great grinding spec in 2.3. It gets a damage buff on the weapon spec, and the stun will save you some downtime.

Full Assassination isn't viable until 55, by the way. You need 41 in Assassination for Mutilate, and 5 into Subtlety for Opportunity.

Mutilate isn't a bad spec for leveling, especially if you (like me) find Combat to be too boring. But I wouldn't spec to it until your low 60's when you can take all the talents that synergize so well with it.

Kind of like S&M without the kinkyness, sex, and the fun.

So really it's nothing like S&M, it's more like slamming your ***** in a door.

I am pretty sure DW spec > Opportunity.

*edit* nm, you can only go to DW spec @ 70.

Just for furiousjim's info...

I'm a lvl 64 muti dagger rogue. Currently lvling with a group (which is awesome - complete quests faster plus it's a roaming PVP posse) and the other rogue (65) is mace specced and doubles my damage. He still tops the damage meters and we have a ret pally and a beastmaster hunter with us - even when he switches back to swords.

I don't mind being lower on the DPS meter with a muti/dagger spec because I enjoy the control I have over the target. At the core its between this:

Combat - beat the **** out of your target, fast as possible.
***. - Stunlock and pick apart your target. Takes longer but you have a wider array of ways to kill them.

This shouldn't be the case. In 5 mans, mutilate should be top of the meters every time. It's a burst damage build.

While leveling, it doesn't matter if you think mutilate is more fun. It's slow. You have to CS, mut, KS, mut, mut, gouge, mut, evis to take down a mob, where I could just hit CS, SnD, SS, SS, SS, SS, evis and be done and not have to run around a mob.

Hell, I can make a macro and play one-handed if I really wanted to as combat. That's the point of being combat, it's so easy that any moron can do it and get to 70. The secondary benefits are that hey, you'll be 70.

What a concept, right? You choose the best build for leveling and you get to 70 faster.

The first person to tell me that they have no suriviability as combat gets a "you're a moron" award from me, along with a "I have no skill" gold star.

But what if you are naked? With no weapons? Where is combat's survivability there?

(Sorry, I just needed a gold star today)

Actually during Beerfest I would duel outside of org with only my beer mugs as weapons.

It was sweet, I totally beat everyone.

I did say it was a slower build...and mentioned that Combat basically involves you beating away and spamming SS on mobs. It's faster - I understand that. To me it's boring, that's what I was getting at. I switched from combat swords to muti daggers at 52 or 53 - and I'm still only a 66 right now. This is still my first char to 70 so my posts are my observations - not to be taken as fact by any means. I'm still a nub and I know it :)

Faster is better for leveling.

Faster is better for everything except (most kinds of) sex!
