I started my shaman with the intent of going resto shortly after hitting Outlands. However, both my current level 70s are ranged classes, so I've been having a lot of fun mixing it up meleeing with my enhancement spec.
I'm basically wondering if I can stick with enhancement the next few levels and still be able to main heal the first few instances, ie Ramparts, Blood Furnance, Slave Pens and Underbog? I know shadow priests can still main heal these places with no points in the Holy tree as long as they have a good healing set, but I don't know the shaman healing capabilities well enough yet to know if the same applies to off-specs in this case.

possible, but painful at times. you dont get any spell pushback protection, and you dont have any emergency buttons or stronger talented heals to rely on, but its still doable. you can gather some healing gear and do pretty well with a decent group, or take the safe road and outlevel the instance by a level or two to ensure you have a solid stat backing to help you out. ive main healed all sub-70 outland instances on my druid as feral, so id imagine a smart shaman could do the same as enh.
Its very possible and I do it on "occation". While I am reluctant to do it, my experiance and gearing is more than capable in doing it, and have main healed heroics too (Heroic SP, UB, Ramp. Mech and BF to name a few).
This being said, you pretty much NEED a tier above what a full Resto might use to be "on par" with them in the main healing job. What I mean by "tier" above, I mean if a Resto gets by with a full set of uncommon quality gear to get the job done, your going to need AT LEAST a full set of RARE quality gear!
Only reason I get by some heroics is mainly because I've had alot of experience with MH when I was a full resto, and that my healing gear sets are of epic qualities that resto's tend to yern for anyhonw :p Which tends to make me a "pretty OK" Enh main healer! I'm sure the 21 points in Resto doesn't hurt either, but I give more credit to skill and gear than talents.
In short, yes its very possible to be a main healer as a non-resto, but that means you have to be that much better than a run of the mill resto!

Ya you can heal fine but you wont have some of the tools and tricks a resto shaman has that make things go easier and smoother for them.
Just make sure if your healing you have a set of healing gear, without a healing set I wouldn't bother.

The main problem is OOM too fast.... cannot last long in big fights.

That sums it up pretty well, if you have the gear and a competent party and tank it is definitely possible, just make sure the party is aware that you are not resto so they need to watch aggro etc a little more than usual.
For us lowbies out there, what about non-heroics, old-world stuff? (I assured the PUG last night I could heal SFK, became moot when a 70 showed up to run us through but....could I have healed it?)

Absolutely, if you have a half decent "healing kit" you should have no problem healing any of the old world content.
