Love for ShamanFollow

I know there are many shamans that are feeling discouraged about the class. This thread is made in hopes to rekindle that love for our shaman and provide support in continuing playing the shaman class. Also, this will help new shamans and give them an idea of why we love the class the way we do.

For those of you who love your shaman, or fell in love with someone else's shaman and decided to roll one, what made you love your shaman and why? Feel free to add as much (or as little) detail: such as the level, abilities, characteristics, etc.

I'll start off.

Ancestral Recall: This ability saves us so much time traveling. Being able to basically hearthstone back to your inn every 15 minutes.

Love the fact that I can deal damage and heal myself when needed, and I don't mean potions that has a cool down.

Always liked the idea of a battle mage, being able to deal good damage (using magic) without being too squishy.

These are just a few of the reason why I love this class, I'll make sure to post up some more reasons why I love this class when it comes to mind.

i love my lvl 47 shaman so much, he is much more fun than my lock. especially since i got Kang the Decapitator with Crusader on it. I tear through mobs, players and i think i could even tear through mountains.

My main is a holy priest, and I rolled a shaman as my 2nd character, she is only lvl 20 so far. In instances as a priest I have been impressed by the mana totems, definately much less likely to go oom with a shammy around, and shamans in general have been very good at helping me heal and protecting me in messy situations. Reincarnation for wipes - good to know it's there even if its not needed. Even water walking - means you can drink on water. Tremor totem - extrememly useful when the situation arise.

I like playing the shaman so far too. Just got ghost wolf and its so nice not to have to walk everywhere for the next 20 levels. Only thing is the totems - I can cope with the 8 I have so far, but I am wondering how I'll remember what they all do when I have the full set?

First, I made a shaman as my very first toon, because I thought that shamans are cool because of the whole spiritual thing, this was before I knew anything about WoW..

Now, I LOVE the whole "Stormstrike, *SLAM SLAM* "Windfury-proc" * double-slam* "Healing, totems, frost shooock! (please watch the movie ;D) - thing, lol it does sound weird, but you know what I mean :P

http://youtube.com/watch?v=q5mD1n4v2JA <-- watch it, it has probably been here before, but its so cool! :D

Oh yea that reminds me about Water Walking.
I honestly love that ability.

It's just so fun to know you can use that on someone when they jump off a cliff into water and cast Water Walking on them.

So funny to see them go "Oh my god!!!" d(^^)b
Of course I only do it on people I know very well.

Off-Topic
About the bunch of totems you'll be getting and how to remember them. That is where organization becomes helpful. There are various ways to organize it and its going to differ on each individual.

You can group it into elements, most used, damage/support, etc.
If you do elements you can set them to damage first followed by support type.
Damage can go into spell damage and buff damage (like Strength of Earth)
For support you can go into defensive support and offensive support.

Pretty much to how you want it, you can always do a mix of these too.
Nothing set in stone, just what works for you.
After a while you'll pretty much know where everything is.

Thanks for the advice Ryugan.

I'm suprised shamans feel discouraged, they're great to play, very versatile. With a respec or maybe a different set of gear you can mix it up with a shaman as much as you like, play melee DPS, caster DPS, healer, even tank at a lower level. No need to ever get bored with a shaman. You can get very tactical too.

Being versatile is both our gift and our curse.
While we can dps we can also heal.
Since we are one of the few classes that can heal, we are usually lodged into that role.
Two of those classes that can heal are also able to tank when specced properly.
Which in a way decreases the amount of healers.
This means we are more pushed into the healing role.
Being pushed to be a healer is our curse.
Our dps is decent, but other pure dps classes will generally out dps us.
Our gift is being able to dps and support/buff other members and their dps.

As long as you love your GIFT more than you hate your CURSE, you should be fine playing a shaman.

I do not play a shaman.

I have a friend who's first and main character is a resto shaman.

My mouth still drops open when I log on his character and go to Nagrand, aggro a single Clefthoof Bull, and be able to go to the bathroom without leaving auto-attack on to come back to a screen that looks exactly the same as before.

That near-bottom-tier resto talent, that gives 50% chance to heal 10% health when hurt under 30% health, is so awesome.

I'm a mage... I laugh at his damage output but cry at his survivability.

I have a hunter, mage, rogue, warrior, warlock..basically i've played every class except priest to at least level 20; warrior & hunter to 50+. Just rolled a orc shammy and leveled him to 21. I think I have a new favorite toon :)

Maumau 54 troll hunter
Wyrmfuud 51 gnome warrior
Soulshatter 21 orc shaman

Azjol-Nerub

Guess I need to update my sig :)

Shaman was my first character choice.

After that I fell in love with them all to be honest and played them all.

But still, there is no class more versatile than my first-born shaman.
Add to that it is the most intense class to play very well with, you have to think of all the abilities, totems, heals, shocks, buffs and what not at the same time and choosing the right thing to do at exactly the right moment.

(something I still do not master fully)

We have so many abilities it will make your head spin. Totems that you hardly ever use can be oh so useful in some situations (sentry anyone?), water walking, ghost wolfing, ressurecting you name it, we do it.

It is the ultimate versitality (spelling?) class, most difficult to master but when mastered oh so powerful......

Haven't played a shaman? Haven't played WoW. Ok now THAT was a bit too sentimental. /smile

short and simple, i love the EXTREME burst damage i get from elemental, it really turns heads in pvp, but the draw back is after a while horde wise up to me killing them so fast and target me 1st, also i find healing quite fun and it also makes a DPS class that can heal

Good replies guys, I hope they keep coming along. Anything you can think of feel free to put it down, even though if it might be as common as you would think it is.

The shaman class is one of those classes that doesn't have a set level where you really start to feel you are playing the full class.

Such as druids at 20, hunters at 10, rogues 20-30, etc.

You get the feel of shamans as you level. Every few levels you gain a bit of completion of the class, but you never feel fully complete until the later levels.

I dunno, to me a Shaman really comes into it's own at 30. Windfury, Reincarnation, Astral Recall, Grounding Totem and even Totemic Call. I love hitting 30 on a Shammy.

30 to me was just the tip of the ice berg. Just at that level we barely received all our elemental totems.

I didn't feel complete until 40/41/42? until I obtained Stormstrike. d(^^)b
