affliction or demonology...Follow

#1 Nov 02 2007 at 6:26 AM Rating: Decent
my friend wanted me to create a warlock so that i could help with DOT. i was gonna go solely affliction but found out that i could go demonology and get a felhunter (think its the one) as a pet to help tank as well. i am still devating on which talent tree i should climb. any help would be appreciated. also if i could get some pointers as to what type of bonus' i should look for on gear and weapons would be nice as well.

Either one. If you want your DoTs to be more powerful though, go with Affliction, though an Affliction/Demo build is viable, I prefer complimenting my Afflic with a little Destro.

The Felhunter we can all get, I think you ment the felguard, which yes, you need 41 points in Demo to get. He is basically a more offensive VW with less armor. he can be great if you spec right for him and enjoy that style of play. Many here like it, I couldn't stand not having my Affliction goodies though.

It's really up to you, 'locks can be good in any of thier trees, it all comes down to which playstyle you prefer.

On gear, before 40, you want +sta, +sta, some +int and more +sta. After level 40, you start seeing gear with a lot of different things like +Spell Dam, +Crit chance, +hit rating and so on. What you need kind of depends on your spec, but +Spell Dam and +Sta are still highly favored by all specs.

What are you doing? Sounds like you need to help level. In that case, i would say level up as affliction to 50 then respec demo for the felguard. The felguard will allow for little downtime since hes gonna be tanking and you can just dps/drain. Another fast way (a little bias here since im affliction) is to use the drain tanking strategy. This would be speccing affliction and DoTing everything/fearing and just using lifetap/drain life. This makes leveling very fast and your downtime very little. I also think this way is more fun. You arent just healbotting your felguard, but thats my play style.

Well, since your asking..:), I've been a DemonLock from the get go. if your playing with a buddy who wants to tank, then you don't want to pull the Mob he's fighting, which is why I didn't go affliction. It is my understanding that they LvL faster because the do more damage, hence, more aggro. Your friend will spend more time waiting for you to run from the graveyard then you'll gain lvl'ing. If your mainly gonna do PvP, then Afflictions probably the way, but if your gonna NPC it, give Demo a try.

My warlock is my second toon. My main being a hunter, I rolled a lock mainly out of PVP frustration. Since I started leveling her, I ask every lock I come across what spec they recommend for leveling. I'd say that 95% say afflic.

The rest say demo, but even they say "Do afflic till 50 when you get the felguard." I've been affliction since the start and I really like it. Fast leveling and really effective in PVP. I'll be hard-pressed to switch when the time comes.

I went affliction till 60, then respected to DM. I spend most of my time in solo play so, there you have it.
