I just switched to resto from being a long time enhancer, and i was wondering when soloing, what is the best way to fight? casting or meleeing?

Any info would be nice.
Thanks in advance.

I'd say casting....
Mostly because you dont have duel wield anymore.
And with an 1H and board meleeing takes a long time i guess.....

Hmm, I was resto for about a month or so before go elemental pvp spec for arenas. So, here goes.

I pull with lightning bolts, I can usually get 2 off at max range. Flame shock as mobs enter melee range. For weapon buffs I'm not too sure whether flame weapon or windfury is better... can't remember which one I used.

As resto I can solo 2 to 3 mobs of my own level with relative ease, thanks to earth shield. I think I also drop strength totem & magma totem to help out the dps.

It will be easier to grind with resto next patch (Hurry up 2.3!!). We can use 2 handed axes & maces without talents, and also our spell damage will increase.

In the meantime, I've been wanting to equip all my enhancement gear and equip my highest dps staff I have and see how it goes with earthshield, SoE, & GoA with WF on my weapon. I wonder how it would go? Healing would be no problem and you'd probably do some decent damage to speed up the grind.

I'm actually leveling as a Resto Shaman. It was fast up until about 40, but then I've noticed how much slower I kill compared to other people. I'd suggest a mix of casting and melee'ing. Pull with Lightning Bolt (or two), keep the DoT of Flame Shock on, searing totem, and mana spring (since fights take so long, you'll actually get a decent amount of mana back). You can either strength of earth or stoneskin totem. I usually prefer stoneskin to save on mana. Plus if I have to cure less, that's more time spent swinging your mace/dagger/staff.

Charge Earth Shield, lay totems, max range lightning bolt spam, auto-attack, take a nap, go out to a movie, and then loot.

Joking aside, good advice so far... but be warned, it is painfully slow--casting or melee. Without damage talents, you need to squeeze every bit of damage potential you can. In practice you'll probably be doing both casting and melee, with the gear choice dictated by your off or previous spec. The best advice is to grab a DPS grinding partner to compensate for your lack of damage.

-After level 60, grab a melee DPS weapon for grinding. Your healing weapon is capped at 41-42 DPS and you don't need the extra +heal for grinding.

-Your shield is next to useless against caster mobs. Swap out for a DPS staff or--after 2.3--invest in a cheap 2-handed axe or mace. Remember you can swap in combat, but may have to re-apply your weapon buff.

-I prefer Flametongue since it's now affected by +dmg while none of my gear enhances WF. If you still have some enhancement pieces for grinding though, WF might be worth it.

-Magma and Nova are not worth their mana unless there's 3 or more mobs. Searing is your friend.

-Your survivability means you can AoE grind when you get bored, but not nearly as efficiently as a pally or mage. Chain Lightning, Magma/Nova, and Earth Elemental if you bite off more than you can chew.

-When you get an add, don't touch it! Stoneclaw actually works now, but usually cannot taunt past the agro of 2-3 Earth Shield charges or 1 shock.

-Nature's Swiftness works on Ghost Wolf. Sometimes running away is smarter than using NS on a heal, especially if low on mana.

I equip my Elemental kit and focus on spelldamage for solo'ing, though Zornov's full Enhance setup sounds interesting too, especially after next patch when we'll be able to equip 2 handers regardless of spec.
