Macro for Pet Attack/Follow on one button?Follow

Hey all,

Been browsing the awsome stickies and links to some great, great macro help and that's awsome as i'm trying to get some essential macros together...

But..

Really would like one to get my pet to Attack OR Follow on one keybinding (pressing twice for follow seems best as having a situational condition for combat/nocombat might make it difficult to switch targets for pet to attack)

I'm sure i remember something like this pre-tbc but have looked everywhere and not found one now :( Any help or comments appreciated.

Summary
--------
1 key binding for Pet Attack/Follow (click once to attack, click twice to follow)

Rather not use the standard keybindings if at all possible to simply map 1 key for petattack & 1 key for petfollow as trying to cut down on my keys to make room for all our essentials ;)

Is it possible?

Any ideas how?

Many thanks in advance :D

The pet bar doesn't eat into our normal casting bar, so you're argument about wanting to use as little space as possible to conserve space for our more valuable spells is invalid.

I've always just used the ctrl+1 for attack and ctrl+2 for follow, and never really used stay, but it would be ctrl+3 as thats the default. Also I mapped the button to go from one active casting bar to another to mouse scroll up and down for ease of transition. I have all of my Active Attacks on the main bar, with all of my tracking on the next one down and all of the miscellaneous ones, eyes of the beast, dismiss pet, and the aspects that are extremely situational on another.

I also have the two bottom bars up and have Kill Command, Intimidate, Betial Wrath and Misdirection on hotkey as Alt+1,2,3 and 4 with the rest of it being traps used often (frost, ice and snake) mount buttons, drink, call pet, feed pet, mend pet, aspect of the cheeta, aspect of the Viper and Aspect of the Hawk. if you'd like I can get a screenie, but i'm at work and don't have a chance to do that now.

Anyway this setup has worked for me forever basically, since I don't like using to many UI mods that change the UI, just using utility mods like Threat Meter, Deadly Boss Mod, and things like that. It's basically stock UI.

One last thing, putting you're pet on passive and being careful about what you send him to attack will almost completely eliminate the need for you to ever use the "Follow" command as he will only attack what you told him to, kill it then come straight back. But do whatever you wanna do man, I just really don't see a point in spending time making a macro for things that already only take literally 1 second to accomplish by the default key bindings.

Thanks for your input ;) i better clarify

Yes, I still hold i'd like a macro for exactly what i'm asking if at all possible because i want to get more use out of my KEYS not out of my bars (I have just about enough of those and your point about petbar is correct but i'm not wanting to click it i want to press a key :))

Anyways, I'm kinda okay and happy with my setup with everything else, though of courser it's always nice to hear how others have things set up - I use various basic mods (bartender, skinner, quartz etc) and everything is just as i want it and convenient for me in terms of skills, macros, consumables etc.

Hence this specific question on creating a simple macro (if possible at all) for combining attack and follow :)

Thanks again for your contribution.

ps. I always have mine on defensive or passive and follow is still really really useful - it allows you to call your pet back from the fight when the mob isn't dead (i.e. AOE attack, positioning, pulling mobs back, aggro etc.)

This macro works but it uses focus to check whether the pet is attacking or not:

/clearfocus [target=focus, dead]
/focus [target=focus, exists] player; target
/clearfocus [target=focus, noharm]
/petattack [target=focus, exists]
/petfollow [target=focus, noexists]

edit: This macro doesn't use focus but won't work in certain situations (eg. after you recall once it won't recall again from the same target)

/petfollow [target=pettarget,exists]
/petattack [target=pettarget,noexists]

I totally forgot about calling your pet back during those fights where he could die easily, like Murmur, and your need for a macro is still lost on me, but if it's what you want then thats what you want. Play how and what you like, don't let me say otherwise. I wish i could help with the macros, but the only macros I use are for specific targetting purposes in Karazhan (demon chains, astral flare, Kil'rek) so my knowledge is minimal.

I do know however that going to google and typing WoW macro help will bring up a good list of sites that can help you, or cruising these threads a bit will give you the information you're looking for.

Thank you both for your input - I'll try that macro next time i'm on and see what happens.

I have browsed quite a few excellent macro compilations but none seem to have quite what i was after so far.. it's so simple i know but it's nagging me that i seem to recall having it working great pre-tbc (before that big patch that changed how wow handled macros etc.. 2.1..? whatever it was ;))

I currently have attack bound to 'C' Key and follow bound to 'Alt+C' and I'm simply after combinging them into a macro I can bind to 'C@ that attacks on one keypress and follows on 2 keypresses or possibly on next keypress, or if within certain time perhaps or same target.. something like that anyways *sighs*

:D

Kelnoen - the macro seems to be working great so far and is just what i was after ;) Using focus isn't a problem as it's useful to be using focus i think on characters anyways so that's good.

Many thanks:)
