Ambiguous Pet NamesFollow

I was just wondering if you used your pets name for those ambiguous pet names* or if you used another, and if so what do you use?

*Ambiguous pet names meaning the name you use to describe a pet, in general, such as:
  • responding to a newb "If <pet> can't hold aggro..."
  • explaining a story "When <pet> did X..."
  • describing talents/abilities "So <pet> will hit harder"
  • etc.

  • So, is it your pets name, and either yes or no - what name do you use?
Me...I don't use one I just say "your pet" or "my pet."

Me neither. I just say " my pet" or "your pet". Frankly, I don't care about my pet's name. All 3 of my pets have no names.

I love my pets and certainly use their real names (and on occassion even their full, long name) where appropriate ;)

Our pets are oure friends. our loyal companions and beloved sidekicks.. how can you not use their names?

I feel sorry for those who miss such an opportunity but still - best of luck to you as you too can be heroes and hunters of the hunted!

    :)

I mean how people will say "Fluffy" or "Fido" which could either be A) their pet's name, B) a common name that would mean "pet" not "player", or C) both.

When i first stared to play as a hunter, in the barrens are them Zevera's (Spl??) and i was hoping to tame one of them to call it Stripey, silly i know, was in a play i did when i was a kid, i played a Zebra called Stripey.

But alas, you cannot tame them, so deciced to start using "Funny" name for my pets, ie my current pet is a White Cat (King B) so called it Mymatedave, Dave for short, everyone in the world has a mate called Dave, its common Science lol

But few WOW friends i know take there Pets name super serious and either have them named after a real life animal, or a name in a book, or movie or as such...

Didnt care to much about my pets name either.
But after lvling 2 "mains" to 70, got bored of them, and came back to my hunter, entered outlands, and seriously started to create a massive love for my hunter, I did pay attention to my pet and his/her name.

Before Outlands, I had my "tankaboar", the rare, black boar from Blasted Lands, and emediatly after I tamed her (dunno why I use her..) I thought she was SO sexy! She's as ugly as can be, which makes her sexy >.< So her name became: Zexy (coz Sexy isnt alowed)

When dinged 65, I went to Blade edge to tame the color-changing ravager.
Couldnt think of any name, so I left him with the name "Ravager".
After lvling him, gaining training points, and after I learned him cobra reflexes.. I was amazed with the attack speed. 1st thing which came up to me was a dual wielding Fury-Warrior. I'm from the Netherlands, So I gave Fury a Dutch "tint(?)" And called my Ravager: Fjoerie.

Still have no name for my Wind Serpent.. kinda hard to come up with a name..

Oh well, thats the story of my pets :p

My first pet is cat, little runt I tamed at level 10. For some reason whenever I would stand some place she seemed to hide behind me and peep, like she was shy of people so I called her Shy.

My second pet is white wind serpent from Feralas. I called that one Neva, there is a story I was told as a little child and there is girl called Neva in that story. She reminded me of her somehow.

My third pet is Trachela from Bone Wastes. First time I ever saw that bird on my lock, she reminded me of some vicious ancient queen on her throne. So when I tamed her I called her Agrippina.

I am RL female, my hunter is female, and all my pets are females. I would feel sort of wrong not to have all girls around me (I have 2 daughters IRL as well).

I do have one male, that is my real life Persian kitty, smoked black little beauty and funny enough though I had him for 3 months now I still didnt come up with a name for him.

I have named my pet (cat) Xena ;) Because she is a real warrior princess.

I do not intend to get another pet, I really like this one and I have had it since lvl 10.

I usually refer to pets, mine included, as their type. I say things like, "Get your scorpid out of my face" or "The tank is dead. Kitty tanking, keep it alive". The only time my cat is called by name is when someone is wondering who the hell DerGato is and why they are showing up on omen.

My pet is King B, named Hobbes (yeah, Hobbes wasn't white.. so what)... I will refer to Hobbes by name if I'm grouped with guildies or people I've ran with before... but normally when I'm in a pug I'll just say 'my pet'

63 Rip-Blade Ravager. Pet name = Zergling, why ? Cause it reminds me of the Starcraft creature. BEWARE THE SWARM!!! - Anxiously awaiting SC-2

    61 Winterspring Cat = Whiskers

    62 Boar = Babe -

If my pet already has a name when I tame them...I use it..such as my current cat Bhagthera...but other wise...I usually give them a name I like..unless my intention is to tame them only long enough to learn a skill from them and abandon them quickly

That is the closest to an actual answer of the original question this thread has seen.

From the title, I thought this was gonna be a thread about pet names like "Pat", "Chris", or "Leslie."

Anyways, I use "your pet" or "my pet".

This is how I usually refer to pets (including mine) though not necessarily the official animal type but will use words like "kitty", "tiger", "bird", "dog", etc...

Skii is called Skii, her name isn't pet, it isn't windserpent, it is Skii, and that is what I will call her.

She does considerable dps, she gives all you people in my group Ferocious Inspiration, she will intimidate and stun the mob if you are taking a beating and need a break, she will sacrifice herself for the sake of the healer and other cloth wearers. She is as much a part of the group as everyone else, and deserves the respect of being called by her name.

So call her Skii. I don't go around calling you gnome, night elf, human, dwarf, warrior, priest... and never once use your name, so show Skii some respect and call her by her name.

Morris gets called Morris when I'm referring specifically to him. Doesn't matter if I'm posting here or in some comment in the game.

If I'm talking pets in general in the game or here, I'll say "pet" or "pets". I even call Lock's buddy's pets even though they are more appropriately summoned demons and not 'pets' per se. So, to me, it's a generic term to mean sidekick, controlled summoned creature, or tamed creature you have to feed.

Now I'm fond of Morris, he saves my toons butt enough that he got promoted to owner. So I'll continue to use his name, and unlike Caldone, I tend to think of him as my virtual adventuring buddy, not some minute defecation that follows me around... :)

His name's Boaracious, but when I'm talking about him in the game, I usually just call him pig, or piggy.

Takes less time, and his name is obvious enough as to who he is. He's a very active member of my instance runs, to the great annoyance of my tanks.

"He's a big pig, yup yup, you can be a big pig too, OY!" ROAR! *charge, growl, bite, generally steal aggro*

WILL PEOPLE EVEN READ THE FRIGGEN QUESTION?
I am NOT asking "what is your pet's name?"
I am NOT asking "what do you call your pet in-game?"
I AM asking "What do you use as a general name for pets when discussing tactics/specs/etc. on the forums" and "do you use your pets name for that, or is it just an ambiguous name?"

Caldone, it is NOT a "pet name" thread. It is different, and if you would have taken the time to pay attention, you would have noticed. To most of the answers, thanks for making me lose faith in this forum.

    Specify better, then.

Your opener looks like it's simply asking what name people use for their pet when talking about it in general. You didn't say anything about "on the forums" up there.

I had real trouble understanding the opening question/point as well - maybe look at clarifying your opening statements to allow clearer understanding by those taking the time to read it?

Anyways, personally I never really noticed anything major regarding your said topic and kinda find it a slightly boring/irrelevant subject - sorry :(

FYI if you were paying attention you would notice nobody is getting what you are saying, so you might want to rethink that statement.

Also, if it is not a Pet Name thread, why does it have "Pet Names" in the title, surely that would point to this thread being a "Pet Name" Thread, even if not in the usual context.
