Tanking QuestionFollow

Quick question. I am in an ok guild for raiding ( we are doing kara ) so i figure im going to have to go prot, which im planning on doing anyway. As one of the few warriors in the guild ( i think we have 4 ) im probably going to be getting a lot of dps gear so that i can start off pvping with some good gear. The question is, is this a viable spec for tanking
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=LA0czZVmZfEzsIMzb0sx
or this one

im not going to bother linking my armory profile as im not 70, and i have mainly quest gear.
also, what heroics should i run when i hit 70 to gear my self up for mt/ot kara?

i'm not sure what either of those builds is trying to accomplish. neither have devastate, and why would you put 40 points into prot and not get devastate... might as well stop at shield slam. also, the second doesn't have 5/5 cruelty. they're both viable, in the sense that you'll be able to tank, but not viable in the sense that they are at all optimal.

i use an 8/7/46 build, that's 5/5 deflection and 3/3 imp tclap, 5/5 cruelty and 2 points in demo shout, then go down the prot tree and definitely spec devastate.

as for the gear question, refer to the gear sticky for a good gear list.

Like the poster said above about the specs you post.

We need a little more info though to give a good answer. For your guild, are you going to be the MT or OT. If your going to be the MT going 46 into Prot is going to be the recomendation. If your going to be the OT, just spec for DPS and have a tanking set since not all fights need an OT in Kara.

Im probably going to be the MT, as im one of the more reliable players, and being probably one of the better tanks.

on a side note, should i go bs and go master armorer or whatever they call it? as i have seen some gear thats pretty nice in bs.

For kara, you don't need imp defensive stance. you want armor, stamina and avoidance.

You don't need to stance dance for all but one fight (nightbane), and that fight you don't need to worry too much about saving rage between stance dances.

Imp revenge doesn't work on most mobs in kara. but is great for if you are doing heroics while being the MT for kara.

You want one handed weapon specialization, this ability increases all your shield slam damage as well as devastate, HS, and base weapon damage. This is a huge boost to TPS (Threat Per Second).

You do not want imp taunt. If you have to use taunt every cooldown; you, your dps, or your healers are doing something wrong.

imp bloodrage is more of filler or left over points to spend, and is hardly important.

so, you can spec for imp hs, as an option, and spec 5/5 toughness and anticipation.

When I was doing Kara, as MT, my spec was 11/7/43

I thought it would be a good idea to have a **** hits the fan button up as much as possible.
Thanks for the help.

honestly, you want consistency as much as possible. you want steady even amounts of threat, steady even amounts of damage coming in. It's more important to stack mitigation than avoidance. with the mitigation that comes from kara, you'll get the avoidance that is needed to tank kara. especially if your learning new content, you need a good buffer of HP.

You have oh sit buttons. it's called health pots, last stand, trinkets and shield wall. reducing the cooldown on taunt is not a good oh **** button. if you need to taunt something your taunt should already be off cooldown. then a shield slam / revenge for snap threat, you don't need to reapply taunt. if you lose agro on a target, it's probably a wipe, unless it was because some DPS was being really stupid... other classes will not be able to handle one hit from a mob/boss in kara, unless they are overgeared for the instance. even warriors in plate, dpsing, will still get one shotted by most trash and bosses.

imp bloodrage is not needed, you'll get more rage from anger management, and the damage you'll be taking in kara will be more than enough for you to have enough rage to keep shield slam, revenge and shield block on cooldown 100%.
