Just starting out a warrior, which would be more advantageous for a prot warrior?
alchemy is awesome, and very useful (I have it and love it). I regret not having blacksmithing though. A large amount of very very nice tanking type gear is available to only blacksmiths.
are you planning on leveling as prot? i do not recommend that. arms of fury all the way to 70. And blacksmithing has some very nice arms/fury gear as well.

In the end you could have both.
I recommend levelling with blacksmithing (the most annoying profession to powerlevel if you start late in the game), and level as arms (you won't have enough hit chance to do well as fury).
When you're lvl 70, with 375 BS, making rare recipes for people for a few hundred gold a pop for your nethers, you can chuck mining and pick up alchemy and buy all your mats.
