Spec. AFTER Reading GMPEFollow

Firstly - I did read over the Greatest Mage Post Ever and found some very, very useful information in it. Useful enough that I wanted to ask an opinion or three.

I rolled a Mage on a PVP server. Now I've done PVP before in BG and city raids and such on PVE servers, but never played on a PVP server. I want to be versitile in the sense that I am mostly planning on AOE grinding with Ice, but want the right Ice/Fire mix that I can be effective at PVP as it applies to world PVP.

I came up with this elemental build:

0/19/42

Does it seem viable, or would I be better off with this Arcane/Ice spec:

19/0/42

Any advice will be appreciated.

It truly depends on your server, but I have never really found the need to have a build around 'world pvp'.

Well, I'm a big fan of frost for PvP, if you want to pair it with fire that's okay, but I'd put points into impact instead of improved fireball. You're not going to be casting a 3 second fireball in PvP anyways, and you want the impact to proc from molten armor or scorch. It looks like a bit of an elemental build with raiding potential, not sure if that was your intent or not.

I would not go 19 points into arcane, 10, maybe, 17-18 maybe or 21 (or even 2) but not 19. You only go there for some utility spells. I would think that maybe a standard 17/0/44 build or a 10/0/51 build, or possibly 2/0/59 build would be sufficient for your needs (IMO). But I dang sure would level as frost.

Edit: Posted at the same time as the above.

You mentioned an 18 Arcane deep into Frost - what Arcane talents? I assume the Frost I posted works fine, its based on the GMPE advice...

I am a noob myself, but I would assume that any aoe ice talents would need Elemental Precision.

The extra 3% that mobs do not resist your spells can be the difference between a perfect aoe set and a set you have to run away from.

Just my two copper.
