Lazy rogue speccingFollow

Hello All

When my rogue got the nice looking fist weapon drop from Warchief Kargarth, I decided to respec from Mutilate to Combat Fists. Being a particularly lazy man I used the cookie cutter spec, but now I have some questions:

1.I never use Gouge now that I don't have to stab people/things in the back, would the 3 points in Improved Gouge be better used in Lightning Reflexes. Or am I missing something with Gouge?
2.How useful is Riposte?
3.Obviously with Mutilate I didn't get hit an awful lot, as combat especially when soloing I get a steady amount of damage coming my way. So... what is the series of attacks you guys use when soloing to avoid this, or is it a case of raising my dodge and stamina to deal with this.
4.Should I be looking for different gear now that I am combat specced.

I am only now starting on the instances that provide decent rewards so my gear is still not the greatest, and I am working on my reputation levels.

Thanks for your help, Happy Halloween.

Yes, you are. Gouge has multiple uses from restealth (in pvp exclusively) to just giving you a few seconds to bandage/run, etc... This being said, I think you're pretty correct assuming that Gouge isn't THAT iseful in pve to justify specccing for it.

Not very useful right now as far as I can tell since there is a counter to it (weapon chain). Should change with the next patch though.

Having leveled both types of characters, I can say the following: yes, you get hit less with a stun-locking build... but this doesn't mean that your life is that much easier. From my own experience, a Combat build makes you so much better as a toe-to-toe fighter that you should still be better off with your Combat build. Just learn the best sequences for the various situations and you will quickly find it easier to play as a Combat rogue. Speaking strictly about pve, you'll find case where it's better to open with CS (casters for instances), but other than that, Garrote is fine, then I'd immediately throw a SnD, check how fast your CPs generate as compared to how fast the target's life drops. Most of the time, after a couple SS, you'll Evisc and it's over (trash). When you're fighting bosses, you'll want to refresh your SnD to keep it up and alternate with Ruptures to keep the mob bleeding. So sth like Garrote, SnD, SS, SS, SS, SS, SS, SnD, SS, SS, SS, SS, SS, Rupture, SS, ... Just an example, you obviously have to adjust to the situation. Bottom line is: have both SnD and Rupture up at all times and you'll maximize your dps. When soloing normal mobs, learn to use your specials: as soon as BF is up, you pull two mobs. When BF and AR are up, you pull three mobs, hit Evade and take them all down in no time. That's the beauty of Combat rogues.

Yes, you'll want less % crit gear and more +hit/AP/Agi gear. Obviously, endurance never hurts.

Have fun with your Combat rogue,
