Well you cant really get all three things you want in a same (or two) diferent proffesions, I think at least.

Common proffs though are Herbalism/Alchemy, because making your own potions will save you a lot of money at endgame, and herb is a very nice income of money, lets just hope they give us alchemists something in the next patches to make us say "Thank lord, I'm glad I chose alchemy!!"

Tailoring/Enchanting-Mining-Skinning-Herb Is another good choice, because you can basically get your mats for tailoring from any humanoid, wich is very easy to do, and at endgame you can make some pretty nifty armor sets, that give great bonuses, i.e, frozen shadoweave set (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=21871&locale=enUS;source=live, plus boots and shoulders) is even better than Kara gear, when it comes to dps.

Also the gathering skill will help you make the money you (normally, I have seen some tailors make a lot of money from it) dont get with tailoring. Enchanting may be an exception, I really dont recomend getting enchanting unless you plan on being a DISenchanter, or you already have another 70.

Engineering and Mining is always fun also, especially because they are getting so much stuff and mats reduction for some items in 2.3 and next expansion.
And lets be honest, who wouldnt like throwing http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=23826&locale=enUS;source=live to that annoying rogue you just feared? *wink wink*

Grabbing two gathering skills is IMHO the best choice if this is your first character, because of the money income you will get, you will feel it's raining gold. If you also dont waste money on AH and use Auctioneer, you will have all your epic mount money and even more at 60, and will be very easy to get gold for flying and epic flying.

I think I went a little bit off-topic with the gold and stuff... But I hope this helps you choose, I may be missing some choices and combinations, but Im not a pro :)

Basically, if you're gonna use em to help yourself, then tailoring / enchanting.

If you're after gold, then I reckon enchanting (for disenchanting) and herbalism. Sell, sell, sell...you'll make a mint.

"common", or "good"? I've found that most players have misconceptions about professions that lead them to believe that crafting can make them gold. It can't. Ever.

What it comes down to is really a question: "do you want to make things for yourself, or do you want to make gold?"

Making things for yourself:
  • Alchemy
  • Jewelcrafting
  • Engineering
  • Tailoring
  • Enchanting

Making Gold:
  • Disenchanting
  • Mining
  • Herbalism
  • Skinning
  • Fishing

Enchanting is a special case, since it can be treated either as a crafting profession (enchanting) or a gathering profession (disenchanting). Fishing is another - it can be used with any other profession.

If you plan on making things for yourself, plan on your second profession being the complementary one that gets you your mats:
  • Alchemy/herbalism
  • Jewelcrafting/mining
  • Engineering/mining
  • Tailoring/Enchanting

Tailoring/Enchanting is a special case, since neither one has a complementary gathering skill associated with it. The main reason that these professions are not money-makers (tailoring/enchanting could be an exception) is that you use sellable stuff (the mats) to make stuff that will only sell below cost (the results). Even when you get to high levels, your sales will be limited. There are so many people who craft and not many who need the results of crafting. Sure, you can make a few 1K gold sales, but not on a constant basis, and days or weeks may pass between those sales. I should note that if you choose to go this road, Tailoring/enchanting has the best chance of being self-supporting. the others should make sure that they have fishing as a side skill to support their expensive habits.

If you plan on making gold, choose two gathering professions (yes, disenchanting is a gathering profession), and add fishing.

I believe I said that as you seem quite bored of going over this, Mike. :oD

Not that I believe you anymore. You LOVE it.

Note that if you have a gathering and a crafting profession, you are not forced to use the mats to craft something. You'll almost always have too many mats for your needs so you can sell them. As an herbalist/alchemist I'm selling 75% of the herbs I have as it and I have more than enough gold for my needs.

Tailoring/enchanting, best gear, enchanter only ring enchants, win. You can still make money off this, and you get awesome gear.

I switched out a couple of times, but at 70 I'm a herbalist/tailor.

Want to make my epic craftables, and the herbalist supports me for money, plus I have an alt alchemist as well.

And a ton of additional mats - some of which you can only get from disenchanting...

Eg, you won't reach 375 tailoring without Arcane Dust.

I went the traditional tailor/enchanter route for my warlock and I think it was a good choice.

Tailoring let me make gear for myself that was as good or better then my drops - more often then not, half or more of what I was wearing was stuff I'd made myself.

Enchanting gives a nice edge to you by being able to enchant your stuff of course.

These two work nicely together since when you're skilling up your tailoring you can disenchant the finished product to skill up your enchanting, thus allowing you to level up two skills for the price of one!

The stuff you can make for tailoring will have some good AH value, especially some of the blue items.

When you have no use for certain enchant mats anymore then you can put them up on the AH for sale and the best part is that there's no posting fee for doing so, meaning that you can leave them up there to rot as long and many times as you want until they sell at the price you're demanding.

The real trick to those two professions (and any tradeskill in the game really) is to resist the temptation to buy raw mats off of the AH - if you stay patient and only skill up when you've earned the mats yourself, you're finances will be fine to great.

PS - almost forgot the best part of tailoring - THE BAGS!!!!!!!!!!

Being able to crank out as many bags as you want, effectively for free, is such a freakin godsend and the best part is, it's something that you'll be able to take advantage of for every toon of the same faction you roll. Just pharm some ruincloth or netherweave real fast and then send your new toon four new 14 or 16 slot backpacks for inventory and however many you want for thier bank.
