So, check out the ol' profile in the sig for Swanky.

As you can see, I have 831 +damage with decent gear. We just downed Prince for the first time last night, so hopefully we'll be able to farm him enough to get a Mindblade in my gear list in the next few weeks. Add in a Orb of the Souleater and hopefully (if it'll ever drop again) a Ritsynn's, and I should be pushing 1000 +shadow as we start moving toward Gruul and the 25's.

Here's my dilemma. I'm currently a JC/Miner. I only have one other level 70 toon (the mage) who is tailoring/enchanting. I'd really hate to lose the steady stream of gems and income that Mining can provide, but the Frozen Shadoweave set would bump me another 82 damage (assuming that I upgraded my gems from +7s to +9s in the current pieces, and put in +9s in the FSW set).

So what would you do? Is it really worth however many thousands of gold and primal farming to max tailoring on a second toon just for 82 damage? Or can I upgrade those slots with better gear through other means and mitigate the loss of damage without losing Mining? Am I thinking too short-term, since WotLK may flip the gear balance on it's ear? And, good lord, I really don't want to have to level another flippin' miner... What to do?

Frozen Shadoweave is the best gear for those slots until T5/T6 depending on the piece. You won't see boots with better +damage. That said, don't feel you HAVE to level tailoring. It just makes things easier.

However, even if you don't take tailoring for yourself consider getting together the mats to get someone to make you the spellstrike hood and the girdle of ruination. Both pieces will last you until you get drops in the T5 instances to replace them and you don't have to leveling tailoring yourself to have them made.

I would say if you can get to 1000 shadow damage and keep your hit rating maxed without tailoring then you will be fine for the T5 instances.

I would highly encourage all spriest to go tailoring, but it's possible without it. If you're a minmaxer, then tailoring is a must. If you're not, then you can stick with whatever else.
Can you still make a decent profit off just buying Adamantite and prospecting it? If so, I'd really consider going tailoring.
