Synergie over healing ability?Follow

#1 Oct 29 2007 at 8:14 AM Rating: Decent
ok so heres the deal, me and my friends (4) do lots of raiding together, but as we progress through people are thinking of switching their roles. As of now we are a lock, mage, priest (shad, druid (feral/tank), and paly (holy).

this is good because lock and spriest have their shad damage, which has synergie and works good. But the healer is kinda weak, is in hes not the greatest of healers. I am better but i find that lock/spriest combo is better and just have a worser healer.

now however, this is what changes are to be made, paly (prot), Druid (feral/dps), Preist (holy)

i am alot better healer then the paly, and i enjoy healing, but is this worth giving up the combo, your thoughts.

Not sucking > ideal group mix. You'd be amazed the kinds of groups you can get away with when people know their jobs and do them well.

If you still want some synergy, convince the druid to go boomkin. The spell crit aura would make everyone happy.

You say raiding, but do you mean grouping, or actual 10 or 25-man instances?

If you're not actually "raiding" as most people mean it, and either grouping outside or inside of 5-man dungeons, you might consider staying shadow and convincing the druid to respec to a Dreamstate build. This build goes as deep as Dreamstate and then into Resto in order to maximize Healing Touch. The main problem with the build is that it can't stand up to really punishing attacks, like some heroics, 25-mans, and ZA once it comes out.

For the best synergy within that group:

Paladin tank.
Druid healer.
Priest shadow dps/mana battery.

As you point out, your warlock boosts your shadowpriest's DPS and vice versa. That huge DPS can feed mana to your paladin, who will use it to keep on tankin', and your druid, who can keep on healin'.

A feral druid can be a fine tank or DPS, but would have less synergy with the rest of your group than a healer.

A dreamstate druid who's the main healer would have the bonus that they can throw out good damage when the tank doesn't yet need healed, unlike a deep resto druid. I forgot to actually say that after suggestion DS >.>

do i heal just cause im better, or hope the the paly gets better with practise and stay shad? Also we'd be doing mostly 5 mans. later on when we get into 10 mans it'll be a different story

Well, first off let me say that I don't care for anyone "refusing" to do something that their class is capable of. Imho, you do what you need to for the benefit of the group. It's kind of like when you ask a shadow priest to off heal, or possibly even main heal one of the lower instances and they say, "I'm Shadow... I DONT heal." Blizz gave you a heal button, please use it if your groupies are about to die. Ok, end of rant... my apologies. Now for your quandry.

First, we don't seem to have any idea what level you and your groupies are, which makes it a little harder to answer you.

Not necessarily. From the way you worded this, I have to assume that the pally would like to stay holy and continue to heal. That's fine. Pally's are the best SINGLE TARGET healers in the game based on class alone. I don't believe that they have ANY multi target heals as the Priests or Druids do. It's going to be a little harder for him to be the main healer in an instance because of this, but I'm sure it can be done and done well.

Basically, if you're going to leave your group specced as they are, it will work just fine... it may not be optimal (I think Emmit hit the nail on the head) but it can work. With your VE providing group healing for everyone, the pally healing your druid tank and you and the warlock dps'ing, I don't think you'll have many problems. Just please to be sure to watch your (and the lock's) threat so as not to pull aggro from the tank. The Pally may not be able to get to all of you fast enough to prevent your death and possibly a wipe.
And you can always drop out of shadow to help off heal too, if it comes to that.

As for the Pally not being a 'great' healer, I'd suggest letting him practice a bit in non-instance situations. Take your group out questing and well, let yourselves get into a bit of trouble so he can work on his technique. With four of you there, you should be able to get out of a jam if you need to.

You already said that this group seemed to work well together as they were. I really don't see a need to change it, you may just need to work with your pally a bit more to get him comfortable in the healing role.

Sorry for the long winded post.
