Umm, my first reflex would be to say that if you're having much downtime as a Prot Pally there's something you're doing wrong.
QFT.
It's going to be as much about style as it is about gear.
My style in gear, I think, varies maybe a little from some of the folks here - 6-10 mobs is about what I can manage comfortably, not 20. THough I have handled more and have drawn adds and done fine, but 6-10 is where it's easy.
About gear, off the top of my head here's what I cam remember the differences between my tanking set and my solo set:
Spell dmg: Solo set has about 2.5 times the spell dmg as my tanking set
Int: I have about twice as much mana in my solo set as I do in my tank set
Stam: I have about 40% less health in my solo set as my tanking set
Those are the three that I worry about. Ditch spirit gear unless it has some other stats that you want, in most cases you're casting/sealing/judging too much to make it worthwhile.
On to style:
You should have BoSanc, Ret Aura and RF (if you have Imp RF, if you don't then perhaps a respec to get it) on.
Don't aggro 1 mob aggro 2, don't aggro 2 aggro 4, you get the idea. Gather as many as you can handle then stop and drop a consecrate.
Drop a consecrate first off, but don't spam the crap out of it or your mana pool is gone.
Seal/Judge light on the first mob youre going to attack.
The next bit depends on what you've gathered and how you're holding up. Most of the time I'll seal SoR and judge it when I can judge unless I need the health or mana from other seals.
When I get my first target down to just under half I switch (he's just going to beat himself to death on my reflective dmg now while I get the next guy), Seal/Judge light on the next target and rinse and repeat moving on when they're half health or below.
Drop consecrates periodically but again, mind yer mana.
The last mob or two that's left I'll use them to replensh health or mana, which ever I need so that when I'm done with 10 mobs I'm pretty much topped off.
Obviously there are a few different styles, this is just what I use.
