what weapon? / iron counterweight?Follow

#1 Oct 28 2007 at 9:38 PM Rating: Good
Hey there, this is I believe the first time I actually start a new threat myself, so I hope I do it well and give all the info needed, if not please bear with me, its my first :)

Ok so basically I am using http://wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=6327 right now, wich I happen to be lucky enough for a guildie to give it to me.

I recently saw http://wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=1722 with +5 damage enchant on it, on the AH and just COULDN'T resist to all that strenght and dps, so I bought it, considering I have a level 70 25g doesnt seem nothing.

The problem is I forgot about http://wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=7723 and I went "oh dang! I've always wanted that weapon!" but then I started to realize maybe the one I bought is better for damage and quick killing, considering it gives me +40 AP from the strenght bonus, but Morgraine's gives me a lot of hp, I decided on keeping the sledgehammer, but I would like a more proffesional opinion on if I did the right thing, was my theory right, or so on.

Another question, considering I'm posting anyway:

Should i keep the +5 enchant on sledgehammer? or get an iron counterweight for it? It gives about 20 haste rating (0.15 speed if I'm not mistaken) and I'm not good at math, but it seems to me that -0.15 speed would give me slightly more dps than +5 damage, I dont know.

So these are my questions, from a troubled paladin (Cap Jack help please? *wink wink*)

Personally I wouldn't fret about Mograine's Might, unless you happen to be there when it drops and nobody else wants it, since you said you always wanted it :) Keep the Sledgehammer as it'll do more DPS. As for the +5 or getting a counterweight, I honestly don't know which would wind up being more DPS, but considering it's a leveling weapon, I again wouldn't worry too much about it. Unless of course you are going to PvP for a bit at 39 (assuming you haven't passed that level yet), then it might be worth looking into which would give more DPS.

Meh you probably are right, but I guess I will keep the +5 damage, maybe even put +7 or +9, love the glow, and it will alow me to give little higher crits.

So I did the right choice... I believe its the first time ;)
So unless someone really wants to come do the math for iron counterweight for just matters of boringness, I officially close this thread xD (at least to myself)

P.D. Thx for anyone who rated up, "Good" looks better than "Default".

Well you posted while I was in my hibernation mode so sorry that I didn't answer quick enough.

ANYhoo,

let's see you are level 33, I'm trying to think of what I was using at that time... it was most likely a blue, as I always try to have a rare weapon.

I think I was using a [wowitem=6687]Corpsemaker[/wowitem], however the Pacifier would have been nice.

Now between the three, I choose either Thornstone Sledgehammer or The Pacifier simply because they are slower, however I can't just let my decision come without some quick math.

I won't include critical strike chance as neither item adds to agility so your crit chance will remain the same.

[wowitem=6327]The Pacifier[/wowitem]
According to the Armory, your current swing damage = 228-284 (256 Average)
Therefore your SoC damage is 70% of that which is 179 Damage on average

Now, on average you will get 7 SoC procs a minute for 7*179 = 1254 damage.
Your attack speed is 3.85 so 60/3.85 = 15.5 swings a minute for 15.5 * 256 = 3968 damage.

So under the terms of the problem, The Pacifier will do on average 5222 damage a minute.

[wowitem=1722]Thornstone Sledgehammer[/wowitem]
Doing some math on your armory and calculating the +5 damage, your swing damage would be 223 damage on average (actually higher, because there is some factor I'm not accounting for, so it will probably be about 240, however let's just use 223 for now)

Therefore your SoC damage is 70% of that which is 156 damage on average

Now, on average you will get 7 SoC procs a minute for 7*156 = 1092 damage.
Your attack speed is 3.2 so 60/3.2 = 18.75 swings a minute for 18.75 * 223 = 4181 damage.

So under the terms of the problem, Thornstone Sledgehammer will do on average 5273 damage a minute, actually higher.

That's cutting it prettttty close, now if you put on an Iron Counterweight instead, for +20 haste rating. The swingtimer will be at 3.07
so 60/3.07 = 19.54 swings a minute for 19.54*223 = 4357 damage.

So you will get 5449 damage a minute with the Thornstone.

So my conclusion

accounting for errors in my calculations, I conclude that

Thornstone Sledgehammer w/+5 damage enchant > The Pacifier w/Iron Counterweight

and

Thornstone Sledgehammer w/Iron Counterweight > Thornstone Sledgehammer w/+5 damage enchant

and

Mograine's Hammer sucks.

and

This will all become moot in a few levels as you get something even better than those.

Love the way your logic works cap :)

Anyway thanks for doing that math for me, aparently it was a diference with or without the iron counterweight afterall :)

I still have 4 levels to go before I can use it anyway... so... lets grind!
