Surviving in RaidsFollow

#1 Oct 28 2007 at 8:26 PM Rating: Good
Well lately in raids I have had trouble surviving in raids, from the trash mobs. Whether it is the saw blades from the saw machines from void reaver trash, or the trash mobs in SSC, or basically any trash that has aoe. I just cannot seem to survive at all.

And then there is the getting one shotted by the maulgars in gruuls lair. I wish the mage class has some sort of survivability. This is why I use my stamina gear when we clear trash mobs, just so I can survive.

Even on boss fights, we make the healers struggle because we usually get one shotted or two shotted before were dead. For example static charges when were fighting vashj. If I dont get an immediate heal I am usually dead. The posoin goo at the end, if I get hit by two at before I get a heal I am usually dead.

I know that were supposed to be squishy, but damn blizzard, give us a little more hp so we have better survivablity. Because any alive class is > a dead mage.

The saw blades in VR is the reason I specced back to frost for a long time. Ice Block, ftw! That, and make sure you're wearing frozen shadowweave and running heroics to get yourself some good gear.

I can see where you are coming from with the surviability. I really don't have too much trouble staying alive in those situations.

For Gruuls: just make sure that you are staying low enough on the threat meter and that when the brute charges to entirely STOP DPSING, then you have to wait a couple seconds for the tank to start gaining threat again.

For the TK Trash: It is very important to remember to keep your mob sheeped, it is of utmost importance. When facing the saw blade guys, make sure that the warlocks keep them banished (we always killed them last). Worst case scenario they get a blade off and only hit one or two guys, the healers can heal through that, assuming that they are decent healers. I only have around 7k hp buffed in a raid and am 10/48/3 and do pretty well.

VR's trash is a *****, there's no way around it. The best thing you can do there isn't get more health, but make sure you've got one mage resheeping the humanoid every few casts, and the warlocks letting the demons up for a maximum of half a second or so.
Sounds to me like part of the problem might be raid healers. You should have a few people assigned to group healing, preferably a pally, CoH priest, or shammy. Getting in an spriest group helps too :d Granted, sometimes, you go down so fast the healers don't' have time to react (pulling aggro after a charge in Gruul, for example).

As mentioned, keep VR trash sheeped or banished and you will be fine. Also always try to stay at max distance from the mob. You can miss some of the AoE lovin' they like to dish out sometimes.

A good MT and OT helps too. ;)

One more note on the VR trash, make sure that everyone stays pretty well spread out. Nothing worse than getting 5 people cut with the razor blade when it could be one that is easily healed through. With Gruul trash, make everyone stand ontop of each other with a raid healer being a shaman, the chain heal is probably one of the best heals in the game now.

Oh, one other thing we found that helps: stick a tank on each of the banished adds, just white-hitting them I *think* though I'm really not sure. Keeps them from going crazy for the second when Banish isn't up.
