+ Healing vs. +Healing and DamageFollow

Correct me if I'm wrong ( I didn't look all the hard) but I haven't seen any posts on this subject yet. I had heard a rumor somewhere that when it comes to gear, + Healing is a ton better than when it says +Healing and damage. I have a 65 druid and will soon be looking for healing gear so I can spec resto and do instances. To be able to heal good, I first need some decent healing gear before I can start gathering form instances. To do this, I needed gear from BoE or Quests or other means before I could start in instances. I got to looking through the armor archives and found out that almost all leather healing gear is either +healing and damage or it's a lvl 60. item. What is the difference between +Healing and +Healing and damage? Is there some kind of ratio that I can figure out to find out which +healing and damage are better than the plain +healing? Thanks for any input you can give.

just look at the particular item to see what is better. It says a specific number as to how much healing or damage it grants. There isn't any kind of ratio. Generally speaking items of the same level that have ONLY +healing is going to have more +heal than one with both +healing and +spell damage.

There isn't any ratio or any forumla to determine what is better. An item that says "+100 to healing" is going to have more +healing than an item that says +25 to healing and +25 to spell damage." There's no tricks here. Just read what each item says.

However it should also be noted that leather does not have as much +healing gear as cloth does. You might find yourself using cloth for healing.

+Damage and Healing works with all your healing spells (Healing Touch, Lifebloom, etc.) as well as with all of your damaging spells (Moonfire, Wrath, etc.)

+Healing works with only your healing spells and does not work at all with your damaging spells. This is being changed in the next patch though, so most items with +Healing will give approximately 1/3 of the +Healing bonus to +Damage and Healing, to give Resto Druids and Shamans, Holy Priests and Paladins to ability solo semi-decently without having to respec.

For your healing set, you want +Healing, for your casting set, you want +Damage (along with Intellect, mp5, Stamina for both and Spirit for healing). How much of the +Healing or +Damage your spells get depends on their casting time and talents. WoWWiki has a nice page on how much each spell gets.

For the ratio thingy, there is no official number. However, if you look at the last +Heal and +SpellDmg enchants, you can get a pretty decent idea:

+81 Heal versus +40 SpellDmg

So, healing gear will have roughly twice the amount of +Heal than its SpellDmg counterpart. As such, yes, it is much better to go straight for +Heal if you wanna fill a healing role.

As for your issue of gearing up, I believe you can get by using +SpellDmg while gathering your +Heal gear in instances. Check out WoW-Loot, it has great lists of gear for all specs. Just remember to switch the list to Resto to see the appropriate gear.
