Omfg i might kill myself.Follow

Ok so I was in oggrimar and a hunter asks in the trade channel if a weapon (cant remember which) is worth 600g, well anyway people told him it wasn't and then someone pointed out "your a hunter you dont need it".

I checked the weapon and it had no stats on it at all just good dps and an efect which cause bleeding. Anyway his responce was "I like to melee to stop my pet dying" (even though with range he'd kill what was killing his pet ten times quicker although I forgot to mention this). Well anyway this caused me to argue I told him to get swords for stats because you should hardly ever have to melee etc etc.

Anyway after a while of me tellin him why he should get weapons for stats this other hunter (both hunters were 40+) said you need to melee in pvp (now I know sometimes you might have to but that isnt any excuse to drop stats for dps as the stats will make the tiem you haveto range alot more powerful and well used right? and then your gonna be trying to get back to range anyway). well i told him this and he tells me "no if your fighting a rogue you cant range". then he actually tried convincing me that you HAVE to melee a rogue and that you win about 50% of the time.

This is doing my head in, both of them left still deciding to melee even though I gave them good reasons not to. I finally understand why hunters are contantly called huntards and not invited into groups. sorry for not much detail but alot happened so I just gave basics.

So was I in the right here? If not why would you drop stats for dps on a melee weapon. It just seemed that at their level to be that convinced i'm actually doubting what I think even though i'm pretty sure i'm right.

Well it is true that hunter's shouldn't be meleeing that much. They have abilities, frost & freezing trap, wing clip, intimidation (BM hunter), and concussion shot, to keep them in a ranged combat setting. That being said, no hunter should feel ashamed if they get put into situations where they have to melee, sometimes you just can't get into ranged distance (Such as a combat rogue, trinketing out of your traps and sprinting). So it is nice to have a skilled up weapon, if you ever want to wing clip to get back into ranged fighting. You always want to have a decent melee weapon skill, so your wing clips don't miss, but as a hunter you should be shooting the enemy at least 95% of the time anyways.

Weapon skill doesn't exist in PvP. It counts as capped for your level. The only reason for skilling up a melee weapon would be for PvE melee encounters to make sure your Wingclip/Raptor Strike hits.

The ONLY reason for a hunter to melee is to get back to range...ONLY!
You never drop stats on a melee weapon just for dps, again the only reason to melee is to get back to range. (im sure you already knew this its just in case they somehow stumbled upon this).

My advice to you is to take a deep breath count to ten and bash your head very hard on the desk you are at so that you will forget that the conversation you and he had ever happened.

And yes even at lvl 70 people can still be retarded.

I have had more than one random guildy (or non-guildy friend), on more than one occasion, surprise me with donating free strength elixirs or offering strength enchants.

I've figured that they're just acting on what huntards in the past have told them, so I explain that I don't need those stats since I'm not a melee class. Then they respond that they also have a level 70 hunter toon, so they know how to play, thank you very much.

And this is all very amusing... Until I realise that they're completely serious. And it's worse when it happens to players that I highly respected before this.

And blizzard is making it FASTER to get from 1-60? Come on! People already breeze past those levels so fast that they never learn anything about their class.

OK, Thanks i thought I was going insane or something. Oh and to the first poster, ok maybe the odd time you will have to melee but I didn't menton getting skills up these two hunters just wanted to melee and also even if you are skilling melee I dont think you should change weapon as it shouldn't take too long to skill.

Ok, I think blizzard starts off hunters on the wrong foot right at lvl 1. When you first make a hunter and you are given the first quest, you maybe autoshot twice then have to melee. So you pretty much shoot once or twice then melee even after you get your pet.
Now I don't remember when you get conc shot and arcane but maybe this is bliz trying to push us into learning how to kite.
But even once you get your pet, there is no real intro to how to play with it and utilize it into the dps + tank system.

I remember when I was questing in STV and I swapped to survival because A: My friend who 1 lvl 20 char and 10+ lvl 10 chars told me SV was best, and B: Survival had better melee capabilities. At that time I was meleeing alongside my pet because my melee did more dmg than my ranged and because I needed to also survive long enough for my pet to save me. <-Horrible I know.

Then eventually around 50ish I was told to go bm for soloing and shazam I became un-huntarded.

I also may have caused a few misconceptions while doing BG's, when I pvp I become the worlds greatest melee hunter and its true and I tell everyone that (It's funny though because my team (Alliance) usually wins the BG when I melee). I may have caused some of these misconceptions.

Shame on blizzard though, why do rouges get that assassins school, druids get moonglade, locks get that underground bar in SW. But hunters one of the most common and hardest to play classes get no cool school thing. I say hardest because even though we are the most common class, there are very few players that know how to play making it like 30% of the hunter pop actually knows how to play, while say locks have a 95%.

I hate blizzard.

I had to melee once >.< We were in Kara and had spent a significant amount of time there. Basically a 5 hour clear. At Prince we had him down to about 20% and I ran out of arrows.

Normally I buy 4-5 more stacks than what can fit in my quiver, just to be safe... but yea, I ran out. So instead of being completely useless, I ran up to him with my Axe of the Gronn Lords and proceeded to hack away with the rest of the melee.

That's fine, everyone has their moment of nubness. To my own defense, I had a full 18 slot Worg Hide Quiver as well as 5 more stacks. Generally I only go through 2/3 of the bag itself per Kara run.

WTF kind of insane attack speed you got? I only go through 1/3 MAYBE 1/2 of a quiver per 5 boss night :S

BM Spec and not a 5 boss night, it was a full clear. With my shot rotation I'm usually top dps... gotta sling a lot of arrows. TBW, Rapid Fire, trinket, everytime they are on CD.

Gotcha, I only pop Rapid Fire on the bigger mobs or boss fights, same with trinkets, and I still used to out-DPS the raid, havn't tried since I respecced, but once I get geare, they better watch out ;)

Had bad luck trying BM, SV isn't so much of a change, especially the way I am specced, I still got Scatter and Aimed :P

Just need to get the damn gear now :(

More for Shock factor really, but figured I would give the other side a try with SV Smiley: tongue

Makes for interesting comments, though its expensive as hell.

Once in the 30s I was on my shadow priest grouping up with a hunter to do a quest. I noticed he kept meleeing mobs. The group died (there were 4 of us, the hunter feigned and survived) because we didn't know how to do the quest, and that hunter just started meleeing mobs and died himself. So, I keep watching him, and he almost never does ranged attacks. Eventually I ask him "why do you keep meleeing?"

"Because sometimes I get 200 when I melee"

I almost fell out of my chair laughing.

Heroic Blood Furnace, after a couple wipes, and my gear was all yellow.

We started the Watcher boss(4 groups of fel orcs then the big demon guy - I forget his name) and my bow broke on the first shot of the first group of orcs. I had to melee through a Heroic Boss fight. We made it, but it was an interesting experience.

Back on the topic, if hes happy meleeing leave him be, just do group with him for anything PvE, if hes happy, you should be happy...
