best warrior weapons by levelFollow

#1 Oct 26 2007 at 10:29 AM Rating: Default
Hey- I'm interested in the best warrior weapons by level. Say 10-20, 20-30, 30-40 etc. I think this could be useful to a lot of new warriors. Thanks!

I'm still a little new to warrior myself, but I would say probably

20 - Smite's Mighty Hammer
30 - Whirlwind Axe, Sword, etc.
44 - Kang the Decapitator > Executioner's Cleaver > The Rockpounder

Maybe someone else can comment on other levels

Well, after level 51 Ice Barbed Spear is going to be the best you can get for a while. Once you get to Outlands the available loot expands tremendously, and its often a question of "how fast can I level up to 70 to get that awesome [Insert Weapon Here]" rather than a constant search to get the best weapon per level.

If you want to stay on top of the weapon food-chain, make sure you do your research and run the appropriate instances to whatever drops you want. Me? I gave questing and leveling up a priority, and worried about loot later. The time you gain from having an awesome weapon to level up slightly faster with is not going to offset the time you lose running instances or farming gold for said weapon. Green or blue quest reward weapons are going to suffice for leveling. :)

Been leveling an Arms (Poleaxe spec) warrior the past few weeks, now to lvl 48. This build favors slow axes or polearms with high white damage & lots of crits. Note that I mainly do quests & instances, and very little BGs.

At 10 to 20, just get the best green that suits your style. You will be competing with lvl 19 twinks for blues, so they are often ridiculously priced at AH. I enjoyed using Gargoyle's Bite with Fiery on it from lvl 20 on. That combo just wiped out mobs in this range.

There's no debate that the Whirlwind weapons are fantastic 2 handers in the 30s, and a relatively easy quest reward to get with a bit of help from a higher level friend. For Arms, the WW axe is just outstanding. Lasted me from 32 to 44, again with a Fiery enchant. At 43, I was searching for an Executioner's Cleaver on the AH, which has excellent stats for Arms (high white damage, with Str & +Hit). It was never available, but I found a Kang (lvl 44) relatively "cheap" (150G, usually 225G or more on my server). I spent the cash & never regretted it. Although it doesn't have traditional Str, Agi or Stam stats, the Rend procs quite often for 56 dmg every three seconds to a total of 560. Remember that each individual Fiery proc gives you only 40 dmg, 60 with a crit. At 44, with mainly blue gear and no enchant on the axe, I was mowing down 49s with Kang without difficulty.

From prior experience with a Ret Pally, Ice Barbed Spear is certainly next on my list (also slow, with great stats). That will take me from 51 (assuming I actually win an AV) until Outlands instance drops, or even some Outlands greens. Thrallmar War Hammer (lvl 61) for a 2H mace user comes to mind. If you favor 2H swords, consider the combination of Truesilver Champion (crafted), which quite often pops a shield that you can fight through, with a Fiery enchant at level 47. The Tusker swords are also slow, heavy hitters in the mid 40s, if the blues are out of your price range.

For Tanking at lower levels I went with whatever blue quest rewards or AH deals I could find, like Diamond Hammer, Looming Gavel, Wingblade and Outlaw Sabre. Dual wielding these at this level is fun too. In mid 30s I picked up a Steelclaw Reaver, which had good speed (builds aggro fast & nice not to have to wait for the next "on hit" ability to go off) & worked quite well with axe spec. Used it right to 48, and just switched to Axe of Rin'ji, also a fast axe. Peformed really well in a ZF run last night.

If you're keeping a weapon for 10 or 12 levels, it's worth getting an enchant on it. I feel that Fiery is the most cost effective for the slow weapons at low to mid levels (40 dmg proc is obviously a bigger deal in the 20s than in the 60s). I have been putting Greater Striking (+4dmg) on my 1H tanking weapon, since the damage on each hit does better over time & holds more aggro than random procs. There is also a huge price jump to +5dmg, which I don't feel is worthwhile.

Remember that at around lvl 60 Outlands greens are much cheaper and often outperform pre-expansion lvl 60 blues, or even epic BG rewards. I only used the Immovable Object (shield) for a few levels when I found a better green for my Pally. Shop carefully.

Great post! I am a level 44 warrior, 2h fury spec, with Bonebiter (+5 dmg). I have saved enough money to get the mats for Crusader, since Kang goes for 335g on my server and I'll never find it on my own. Should I put Crusader on IBS at 51 or save it for level 60 (I'll get the expansion then)?

Crusader's effectiveness is reduced above level 60 (less +str, less healing, and I believe lower proc rate as well), so if you're gonna take the plunge, do it before 60.

If you're dead set on getting a really expensive enchant, why not go with Mongoose or Savagery (I'd prefer Savagery personall)

I've already got the mats for Crusader. I will look up the differences (I remember reading that Mongoose was really good) and see what mats I need. It's nice not having to change weapons every other level, so getting Whirlwind Axe early was great.

If you had to save up money to buy the mats for Crusader, you're gonna be horrified at the prices for Mongoose mats. Savagery is roughly comparable to Crusader (a tad more expensive, varies with server) and slightly better for raw DPS (though Crusader also procs a heal).

In my opinion though, unless you have a high-level main supplying you money, don't even bother with enchants. It'll take you a week or two to outlevel any weapon you find, so that's just money down the tubes without a substantive impact on your leveling performance.

Edit - if you're still using Whirlwind Axe at 44, it's overdue for replacement. Take your enchant money and get an Executioner's Cleaver instead; it will give you a far better return on investment.

Interesting.

With this weekend coming up, I can make a profit on the 2 righteous orbs I got for 27 and 35 gp, that regularly sell for around 50g on the weekend.

I will look into this. Thanks!

Oh, and I'm using Bonebiter (+5 dmg) right now.

Problem with Executioner's Cleaver is finding one. You'll probably be Level 60 by the time you find one. I had a WW Axe with Savagery until about 44. At that point I replaced it with a Rockpounder, which has since been replaced by a Gatorbite Axe. Free stuff ftw, seriously. I don't think I've spent a dime on the AH for more than a handful of items in my entire WoW career (which admittedly isn't that long, but 50 levels of WoW and lots of blues is enough to say that you pretty much hardly ever need to spend money on anything).

Ah right, missed that in your first post. Either way, I stand behind what I said, if you can't pick the money off the gold tree fields in Outland, a new weapon would serve you far better than an enchant. Then, at 51, you can get Ice Barbed Spear, which is by far the best you can get til 60.

As a point of reference, Crusader adds about 3.57 DPS to a weapon (procs for 100 strength at a proc rate of once per minute and duration of 15 seconds, so an average of 25 strength, 25 strength = 50 attack power and 14 attack power = 1 dps), and Savagery adds 5 DPS (flat 70 attack power).

Really? I checked last night on my low pop server and there were 3 up in the 50-70 gold range (high, but much cheaper than an enchant).

Wow, you weren't kidding! I looked at the sheer amount of materials needed for Mongoose and think I might as well forget about that. I think I'll upgrade and try and powerlevel to 51 and get IBS. Just reading about Mongoose is giving me IBS.

Strange, because I've searched my server's Auction House every day for like the past month and have never seen one. I see lots of Adamantite Cleavers, Apexis Cleavers, and all kinds of other Cleavers. But never an Executioner's Cleaver.
#17 Nov 03 2007 at 8:35 AM Rating: Decent
I got lucky and found an Executioner's Cleaver the other day for cheap (20g). Right now I'm level 44. How long do you guys recommend that I hang onto it?
#18 Nov 03 2007 at 12:31 PM Rating: Decent
Ice Barbed Spear at 51 seems to be the sure bet. 44-51 for 20g is definitely worth the investment, it seems.

uldaman for weapon at 44 the rockpounder. i love it so far i added +7 damage on mine i think.

Saw the Executioner's Cleaver for 55g on my server this morning. My righteous orbs have not sold yet. :-(

#23 Nov 07 2007 at 6:27 AM Rating: Decent
I am level 45 now. I will look into Rockpounder, as I have not run Uldaman yet.
#24 Nov 07 2007 at 7:37 AM Rating: Decent
uldaman sucks. i got the IBS on my first try. granted, i did get killed often.
#25 Nov 11 2007 at 11:20 AM Rating: Decent
Just got Executioner's, so I'll wait until 51 to get any more weapons. Trying to get the Berserker Bracers, and I think I'm good to go for a while... right?
