Tank/Healing Pally or Druid?Follow

Which is better for duel roles (tanking and healing), Druid or Pally?

This is taking into account that each class is compared when specced to their respective healing or tanking trees. This should also assume an end-game setup with comparable gear. The comparision should be PVE tailored although I wouldn't mind a PVP side-discussion as well.

I realize I am posting this on a druid forum so those with only Druid experience might simply scream DRUID! But please, refrain from your dedication to your class for a moment (although it isn't a bad thing), and consider the differences. Thanks

P.S. Visiting from the Rogue forums. I currently have a Druid alt and a Pally alt, both very low levels and I am trying to decide on which one I want to dedicate my time to before WOLK comes out. I realize there probably isn't a clear cut answer to this, but discussion is appreciated, thankyou for your time and responses!

PPS. So far, I love my Druid....

You could not pick more different classes even if you tried. ;P

Prot Pally: The best multi-mob tanks. They are great at taking on many mobs at once, but lack a bit in bigger 1 on 1 fights, like bosses. Not saying they can't do it, on the contrary, but they do not excel at it.

Feral Tank Druid: The best damage mitigation and health pool. Also, excellent single-target threat. (Better than Warriors from what I hear) They will not have as much avoidance as a Warr or as many "Oh sh-!" buttons, but they can take a hit like none others.

Basically, they excel where the other one lacks a bit. That being said, a Feral Druid will still be better at multi-mob tanking than a Warr as far as I know. I tried tanking with both, and I prefer the Druid's way, but I know some people feel the exact opposite.

Now, healers.

Holy Pally: Hands down the best single-target healer. Can easily top the healing meters as long as he does not have to multi-target heal too much. Plate protection is pretty good in PvP but not so much of a difference in PvE. Higher survivability through abilities like bubbles and the like.

Resto Druid: Superb healer but I do not have much hands-on experience with one. I played my Druid as a healer before the expansion so I do not fully know the beauty of the new HoT's. Although I do know you can maintain a stack of 3 Lifeblooms on someone while throwing HoT's around and help topping everyone. You will probably not top the meters as much, but you'll be helping a lot. AoE heal (Tranquility) can be pretty useful too. Not a lot of "Oh sh-!" abilities for PvE but in PvP shifting in and out of Travel form will make you a pain in the *** to kill. Spells cannot be interrupted if you rely on HoT's only.

I swear, if I dive back into WoW sometime, I'm finishing leveling my third Druid and I'll play with both Feral and Resto. Such a beautiful class...

So yah, I'm biased a bit because of my love for Druids, but I played a Pally and have gone Holy for end-game, although I do know about Prot a bit since I'm a regular at the Pally forums as well.

Hope this helps a bit. It's highly based on playstyle preference, etc, though.

Prot Pally: Most AoE threat, least single target threat of any tank. If they are overgeared for an instance they are the best choice, as they are like flypaper and the mobs are flies. Also great for soloing because you just grab a camp and some adds, then kill several people at once.
Disadvantages are that pallys suck at off-tanking (try building up threat without reflective damage on one), and pallys have fairly low mitigation compared to a warrior.

Feral Druid: Good single target threat (not sure how they compare to warriors, but more than pallies), and most health and armor. Almost impossible to avoid crushing blows.
I believe warriors have more AoE threat now that they can use TC in defensive stance, but up to 3 mobs a druid can hold aggro fairly well. I'm not too familiar with high-end druid tanks, however, so I dont know how well they do once they get more instant attacks.

Holy Pally: Better single-target healing than anyone else. If assigned to heal MT, will be best for the job. But not good at AoE healing.

Resto Druid: Great with HoT's, but not too great at keeping up a tank who's tanking damage fast. Also will use a different build for 5-mans than for raids, with a balance/resto hybrid for 5-mans focusing on HT spam, and a tree form build for raids focusing on HoTs.

For high end druid tanks, lacerate is like sunder and the tps is pretty good, at least on par with warriors.

The lack of a way to be uncrushable hurts, but is helped by the increase in mitigation(I have gotten to around 68% mitigation with not much in the way of raiding) and higher health to absorb the damage and stay alive.

If you want to tank a single physical mob, I would go with a druid, magic user I would use a warrior, all else equal.

I would comment on paladins, but I don't have much experience with the mechanics of tanking for them. All I have seen is they are awesome at multiple mob tanking.
