So I started playing WoW again and rolled another Warlock because, frankly, I love the class.

In the past I've always gone straight Affliction or straight Demonology. This morning I got to looking over builds and tossing things together, and I got to wondering - is it possible to mix and match your talent trees effectively?

See, my favorite part of going straight Affliction was drain tanking at level 46 or so and taking on four or five mobs at once. Now I don't _have_ to do that to be happy - but its nice.

I also want to PvP, which makes a difference in my build (obviously).

So I got to thinking about taking some of each tree to try and make an effective drain tank. IE - some of the nicer perks of Affliction (increased range on spells, +shadow damage, etc), Demonology (namely the +armor), and Destruction (+damage, +range, etc). The result was this:

30/13/18

Of course then I got to wondering - why not straight Affliction/Destruction and to hell with Demonology? So I came up with this:

35/0/26

Any advice would be appreciated, but basically I am looking to do something that is both different and effective, and is good for both Drain Tanking and PVP. Thanks!

Some form of SM/Ruin (looking back, why do I always assume 30/0/21 + has Ruin and SM?). Very nice as the typical "Glass Cannon", puts out high DPS, and is very good for soloing.

However, maybe consider this or this?

CoA and Shadow Embrace are pretty meh as talents go: Shadow Embrace is pointless to max out (one point at most for Soul Siphon, and that's going out in 2.3) but Nether Protection, Amplify and Exhaustion are pretty nice (Exhaustion especially against Rogues) for PvP.

I think I just ninja that spec, actually, since it still puts out pretty hot (any retarded Destrolock puns non-intended) DPS.

(overused brackets <3)

EDIT: Oh gods, I didn't notice you missed out Bane and Ruin! Tweaked the Destruction tree a bit more.

Actually I really like that second option. Its been a while since I played so I hadn't really thought of talents all that much. Thanks for the help tho, I'm going to go with Option #2 me thinks.

Thanks. Remember, Shadow > Frost, lest Loki /slap you.

Gotta respec to that when I get home, SL/SL isn't glass cannon-y enough for me.

Now, I'll just escape his eternal wrath. Bye!

I'd go like this:

IMO Demonic Embrace is a must. Sta is one of our most important stats both for Drain Tanking and in PvP. So don't miss it if you don't have to.

Hrm. Demonic Embrace is rather important, and the sacrifice worth it. I'll go with that one! :D
