Difficulties with PickpocketingFollow

Hi guys - my first ever post, so be gentle with me!

I'm playing a lvl 48 Undead Rogue on Draenor and since the last patch, I've had real problems pickpocketing mobs. I stealth, select the target, sometimes use distract if they are wandering around a lot, and then approach. Just as I get into melee range, my character comes out of Stealth and attacks, before I've hit pickpocket or just as I do it. I get the message across the screen, 'Must be in Stealth', which I can only think must relate to the pickpocketing action.

I've had a look at the options and taken auto-attack off (although I believe this is related to shifting targets) and seen if there is anything else I can change, but nothing else seems to be related to this and I've had no success.

Has anyone else encountered this? Is it a bug or am I doing something wrong? I'm relatively new to WoW, my rogue being my main. I've had a good look round the various wikis and forums but nothing seems to mention this.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Are you sure you're Left-clicking the enemy you want to pickpocket?

Left-clicking selects the enemy, whereas right-clicking attacks them.

You might of right clicked them (attack). Try selecting using the left-click or Tab.

Before you get in range of your attacks, look down at the bar and see if your auto attack is activated (will have a red box around it). That should let you know what the problem is. If its on, the advice above is perfect. If not, post again and we can help.

Your first post is thought out and reasonably articulate. Thats why you have the prestigious answers above me. You'll do well here.

Many thanks for the help. You were quite right, I was left, rather than right clicking. A complete novice's mistake to make, but hey ho.

I've found the posts on this forum to be really well written and informative. I need to read them all properly and go away and follow the advice. I hope it will make me a much better player.

If you're sticking around:

Read the stickies
Use the Accomplishments thread (front page)
Use Nooblestick's advancement program (front page)
Write coherent post

And most importantly...

Do not **** off Theo or Demea

LOL

That last part was passed along to me when I joined up, thought it was funny enough to keep around.

What, like I'm some kind of @#%^ing clown? Like I'm just here to entertain you, like a jester? Huh?

/joepesci off

Edit: Actually, I need to watch that movie again. Apparently, the character portrayed by Ray Liotta is the second cousin of one of my mom's coworkers. He's still under the Witness Protection Program, and there's still a price on his head.

Another way to never have to worry about pickpocketing again is to set up the following macro:

/cast Pick Pocket
/stopcasting
/cast <opener>

Just replace <opener> with whatever attack you open with from stealth (i.e. Cheap Shot) and turn on auto loot. You character will pickpocket, loot and attack in that order and you will be good to go for the rest of your roguish career.

Pretty sure you WANT to left-click, rather than right, if you're trying to pickpocket rather than attack. At least with my setup, right-click is auto-attack. Frankly, I don't know why I even have auto-attack enabled anymore, since it is never ever used.

I second the notion of the Pick Pocket macro built into your opener--my lockpicking would still be at 100 if I didn't have that. That said, for PvP I usually swap the macro out for a straight-up cheap shot (or whatever your opener). It may just be my imagination, but it seems like I miss the flag carrier in WSG way more often when I have the pickpocket macro still on my opener hotkey.

I have my stealth hotbar set up with my macros on the left and the unmacroed versions on the right so I can choose as needed. I don't bother using my macroed openers on anything but humanoid, undead and demon mobs.

That works if you click your opener, rather than having it bound to your mousewheel or a convenient hotkey. I click my mousewheel for cheapshot (or pickpocket->cheapshot if not pvp), so it's easiest for me to just drag CS out of my spellbook to my mousewheel-bound hotbar slot when I BG. Of course, for unexpected world pvp, I don't have that luxury, but that's not the end of the world.
