How am I doing?Follow

#1 Oct 24 2007 at 5:57 PM Rating: Decent
Just wondering if I can get someone who is well versed in the feral druid form to look over my druid? I'm questing with a pally pretty much constantly so I am in cat form just about all the time. He does most of the healing so I just worry about dps. My best crits come from ravage. I can often average a 450 and have gone up to 550. Any suggestions on gear, talents or any other suggestions? This is my first druid and although it feels like I'm doing pretty well, I want to be sure I'm not missing anything.

As a Tauren druid you are a bear, a evil vicious cat thing, a cheetah, a man eating seal, and a cow. You are not a monkey, so I would suggest more "Tiger" (+ str & +agi) gear instead of "Monkey" (+agi & +stam). You'd maximize dps without losing crit. You'd lose stam but if you have a pally healing you then it doesn't matter. Decent weapon though for bear form.

Your talents aren't great though. Wasted point in Nurturing Instinct. Better off putting that point in Faerie Fire. Even better would be getting 5 points into Furor but FF was always a key skill for me for pulling mobs. The savage fury isn't neccessary either. Perhaps not at all, but definetly not now. Those points NEED to go into Primal Fury. And since you say that you use ravage, the 2 points in shredding attacks are much better off in brutal impact IMO.

Those are my tips, but perhaps I missed something.

As the dude above wrote, your stuff is quite ok (though for the sake of dpsing you ought to have more +str ,and +agi, not worrying that much bout +stam), but your talents are kinda... mixed up. They look as if you weren't able to choose, what actually you wanted to do.

You said you're mostly into Whiskas and having a Pally buddy you don't need much healing or tanking. If I wanted to make a spec fo that, I'd change:
- Feral instinct - OUT. If you're mostly the kitty, you don't need the threat bonus, and if it aint you who pulls mobs, you don't need the prowl bonus either. Put those points into Improved Bash (very kewl talent, saves *** often; also use Pounce more often, will make it easier for you and the PAlly to overcome the mob) and save 1 point.
- Savage Fury - out. If you're using Shred mostly, as I believe you do by what you wrote, then you don't use Rake or Claw, and you don't have mangle yet. Put those 2 points into Primal Fury. They'll make those Rips and fero Bites come so much more often, increasing your DPS heavily.
- Nurturing instinct - ouch. Walking with a Paladin and taking a +healing talent? Come on... that talent isn't bad, but not yet, not yet, and not in these circumstances... put that into Fearie Fire. It reduces enemy's armor, increasing the damage you do to the target by some.

agree with XanNerull except for Savage Fury... i would take the talent.
it increases your damage, when mob is on you, heavily.
I just like the talent and it never dissapointed me. But hey, just my oppinion.

I'll say again part of my other post in the similar help about Druid check-up.

For the early talents:

Feral Instincts > Thick Hide, in my opinion. 10% armor won't make a noticeable difference in Cat form, and you shouldn't be bothering with armor while leveling up. Mobs don't hit that hard and you should regen enough mana to shift out and heal yourself when you need to. Furthermore, with that Pally alongside, you should need to do it even less often.

While the threat from FI won't be of much use if you remain in Cat form often, it will still come in handy from time to time. More than TH, at least. For example, you may try to do an elite quest with that Pally and you end up tanking the mob while he heals you. That little boost in threat will help keep the mob on yourself rather than the Pally. The stealth is a nice bonus, too, if you need to reach some place too crowded or whatever. Since you're not with another class who can stealth, its benefit is somewhat lost, granted.

Brutal Impact is always nice so I'd suggest choosing either FI or TH and max it out and then take BI, thus moving on to the next tier.

As for Nurturing Instinct, I agree that it is a waste. I'm not too fond of that talent, except for PvP-focused builds where you *will* have to shift out sometimes to heal yourself and people around you while still wearing mostly DPS gear. In a PvP context, I still find this talent to be "meh", and little more. :P

And as pointed out, do not underestimate Primal Fury. With two points in it, it will nicely increase damage done both as a Bear and Cat. 1 point is just a waste, as 50% isn't reliable enough, but for just another point it makes a world of difference.

And as for gear, it looks good enough. I never bother too much with that since you should be leveling fast enough to outgrow your gear rapidly. I'd simply echo the suggestion of getting more Str while losing a bit of Agi. Stam, however, is always nice and I could never suggest anyone to lose some.

Someone once told me Viscous Hammer was the best druid weapon until level 50+ or so. True?

It looks good enough, but I dunno if I'd say "best until 50", especially since it's a world BoE drop so the prices must be high and the item will be hard to get.

I'd get that blue hammer in Gnomeregan and eventually replace it with something else. I know around 45ish there are nice green hammers on the AH with +10/+10 stats or something like that.

Much, much cheaper and you won't be keeping it long enough to justify spending lots on that Viscous Hammer.
