Hi,

I have a question for wiser 'locks than I. Tonight, I will likely level enough to acquire Siphon Life and Curse of Exhaustion. Once those two are acquired, should I continue adding points to the Affliction tree, or should I switch to the Demonology tree and fill in Demonic Embrace and Improved Healthstone? I see advantages to both, so am having troubles picking which is best. Anyone have an opinion? Thanks in advance.

How do you play? Do you pvp at all?

If your goal is to march on up to 70, I'd stay in affliction.

You need one point in Shadow Embrace - to get an added affliction effect to make your draining hit harder.

SM for more damage is good - and I assume you want dark pact - tap your pet for mana can be really nice (I know some locks hate it, but for the life of me I can't see why - even if you drain tank or drain hunt and normally keep your mana pool filled iwth drains, it never goes totally smoothely - you get adds that require you spend more mana - w/ DP you don't have to drink back - you tap and move on to next fight - and tapping mid-fight lets you take on some really gnarly situations and win! Anyway, just my 2 cents).

As nice as extra sta is, you only need that if you're pvping. Go for SE, SM and DP.

I think it depends on your play style. If you are having issues with survivability (or do a lot of PvP) then the Demonology talents help out with that. If you continue down the Affliction tree, you get talents that significantly boost your DPS potential (Shadow Mastery, Contagion, and Unstable Affliction) and ability to grind (Dark Pact).

I guess I didn't specify, which was my fault. For the record, I am trying the 'drain hunting' approach and much prefer PvE playing...though the rare PvP (BG's) does occur.

If you are drain hunting, your primary pet will be your VW, and your main weapon will be your dots and drain life. Stick with Affliction as much as possible. If you go into the demonology tree, get demonic embrace and improved voidwalker. It will make you stronger, and make your voidy a better able to hold aggro. Save Dark Pact until later - you'll use it mainly for raiding/instancing with your imp, not for drain hunting.

I wouldn't spec for that now, in the next patch it won't count as an affliction effect for soul siphon any longer.
