I asked in a previous post about when to switch from ret to prot...I've decided on 40 for the simple reason of "I'll be changing out my gear anyway, might as well only do it once" (Since Ret I believe is Str/Agi/Stam and Prot is Stam/Int/SD, there's other stats but for soloing I think those are the primary stats). So I'm assuming that from 40-58 I will pretty much want to stack stamina and intellect, since I think SD itemization isn't the greatest pre-OL (according to a post I read a little ways back).

So, my question is if this sounds to be about right for what I should aim for:
A mix of "of the eagle" and "of stamina" plate gear, hopefully netting somewhere between a 50/50 mix and a 65/35 mix of stamina/intellect, and then the slots that I have +stamina gear in, get some +heal gear of any type (cloth through plate), so that if I'm healing I can replace my stamina for healing ability. Would the proposed options give me viable soloing power and then viable healing power in the expected environments?

My healing set at the lower levels was all intellect. I think I only had a couple of pieces that had +heal.

There is no one way to do it. You can stack int or you can do your best to get +heal, although there isn’t a lot to choose from pre-BC

Okay, so it may not be THE way, but would it work pretty effectively, do you think?

Actually that sounds all good to me. I think you are putting a little more in int than is necessary, you have SoW and JoW to keep up your mana. As you get into outlands, start pulling away from your int to grab spelldamage.

I was AOE grinding the demon hunters on top of BT about 20 of them at a time, and I had 8 intellect.

Yeah it'll work. Just play and have fun...

Myself I switched to prot at sixty because I wanted to wait for the spell damage gear and i was having fun being Ret.

i went protection at 34 (that's right... only 4/5 reckoning)

but i had a blast with it! ... i like it a million times better than reckoning

here's my armory. i can fight 3 @ a time and i'm afraid to take on orange mobs. my gear is heavy on intellect, but i take stam or strength where i can get it. i really like int/str gear for questing. int/stam for tanking.
