While AoE'ing I really only used the elemental when the going got tough, for instance, a resisted nova. I'd just use the elemental nova and put it on whatever target I was targeting in the first place.

About it tanking stuff, it really doesn't pull much aggro, at least not off of me.

I did use it to make elites walk back and forth though, you can put the elemental a decent distance away from you, ice block, and the mob goes after the elemental.
After which, you can start pulling it back to you, but it still has to move the entire distance. Only really works on snareable mobs though, unless they have low hp.

Well if it is aoe you are looking for I am assuming you are specced for it (Improved Blizzard, no frostbite). I really do not hink that there is any purpose for the Ele because you are rounding up mobs on yourself anyways. You CAN use it for your second nova (if first one failed) without blowing Cold Snap.
There are plenty of uses for Ele in PvP, but IMO for regular PvE grinding it is not that useful...

i use the w/e whenever CD is up, especially in aoe. let his FN land 1st so he'll get his CD back sooner. also, he'll take out 1 whole target faster than you get the rest down. results in less beating on you.

to use as a tank, let him have the 1st shot and you can frostbolt rank 1 to slow w/o pulling aggro. after 2nd/3rd shot you can go at it. this will land you at least 3 nice frostbolts before mobs goes for you. even after that, the mob should bounce back n forth between the 2 aggros. i keep ktm up for boss fights just for this method. i solo'd almost all of Nagrand like this. Group quests = me and we :D

I tend not to use my elemental while aoeing, I've got into a nice routine and the elemental breaks that (with gcd), even for an emergency FN I tend to find it leaves the group a bit too spread out.

I do however love it for elites and in instances, but aoeing I'll continue on my own I think.

Yeah I dont use WE for my AOE farming. It screws up the mob wrangling. The only time I use it is when Im in trouble or happen to aggro another mob I didnt see. I use the WE to aggro him while I down the original mobs. Consider it my "Oh @#$%" button.

Erm ,my mage is now 52 (got my ele also :D), had a break from my hunter, i had no probs with ele so i'd suggest playing a hunter at low lvl using Ctrl+(number) to controll pet.
From that you'll be confident enough to just press Ctrl+4 (i think) for the freeze ability and be able to get back to moving keys+ hotkeys, while targeting the freeze with mouse which wont be too hard if you ever used mage aoe...

Soo... thats all i can say..

I'm a 63 frost mage currently ( http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Ysera&n=Quantos) and I love AoE'ing and am now half decent at it. For me the most important parts of AoE'ing are the pull, and the snare (frost nova'ing everything in a tight group). I have never tried to work my WE into this since I don't think it would help you pull more mobs. Its extra FN might be helpfull after a good pull though.

I have found that when I was lvl 60 AoEing some of the lvl 61-62 buzzards would require 2 runs for a total of 3-4 Blizards(IB, mount, do the pull and round up 10 or so, CoC them, IB again, FN, run, Bliz, Bliz and repeat, wand any survivors) and if any resist my second FN, I had to decide between CS or poping my WE for his FN or running away. I found that if some resist the FN you need split second reaction time or they will be too spread out, and for this reason I'd say that unless you already have your WE out the extra .5 second to pop your WE and use his FN would be bad.

I usually just use my WE for adds and elite's, as the other posters have said too. Though if you pop your WE before the pull you could use his ranges FN for the 1st snare giving you more range and time. I think I'll go try that when I get home tonight :P

Bind your eles freeze to a button close to wasd if you move with those. Mines at "T" and it's way easier than having to use ctrl + 5 (or was it 4 - don't remember really as I've always just used "T").
