I would go Shockadin for pvp, and if you bring a healing set along, you can switch into healing for instances.

I've yet to see a single shockadin in arena that hasn't made me flat out laugh. In fact when I see one I rejoice because it means easy heals and a guaranteed win.

Ret is about the same, in fact when I see repentance go off I usually say "We've won" when playing 2v2 or 3v3.

I have to QFT this.

Going Holy is the most viable possibility I see.

For instancing, Prot and Holy are the most reasonable choices. Regardless of the whole "Ret can DPS" debate that has been going on around here lately, though much less as of the past few days, people in the game still carry the idea that Pallies can't DPS and, frankly, I would too take pretty much any other DPS class over a Ret Pally. =/ So tanking and healing are the best choices, I believe.

For PvP, either you try to be a Ret Pally which works better than in PvE from what I've seen and heard, or you are Holy and support your team for glorious victories. (Notice the bias toward Holy here) As Prot you'll have to find Rogues and Warriors cause you'll lose against pretty much any other class. And the healing won't be nearly as good as a Holy Pally. So individualistic DPSer or group support are the two PvP choices, in my opinion. (Again, huge bias, I know)

And thus, the only spec that fits both is Holy. And luckily, you can have a single build for both PvP and PvE. (Yay, bias!)

I have to fifth this. Holy is what Blizzard obviously wants people to play and 83% of paladins are holy.
