So I've finally got my poor little neglected hunter up to lvl 56 BM. Now my question is which would be faster, continue working on quests that are essentially pre-bc as well as grinding in places like plaguelands and maybe silthius or do I go and grind on mobs like the hellboars and some of the other humanoid mobs in outlands until I reach the coveted lvl 58 to actually get quests in outlands?

I've really been thinking about just grinding in outlands since I'm a 350 alchemist and could make some decent money getting felweed and some of the other low lvl herbs in hellfire since on my server (kel thuzad) a stack of felweed is going for anywhere between 15g buyout up to 24g buyout, so definite money making potential.

I guess I'm hoping that there will be someone out there that is able to tell me of a few certain quests in places like Winterspring or Silthius that are perfect for hunters. Thx

I'd reccomend levelling before attempting it. While we are an efficient solo class, some of the pulls in Outlands (even Hellfire) can be difficult with Azeroth gear. Once you start getting some of the quest rewards, you'll steamroll the mobs... but until then it may be rather difficult.

I went over right at 58 and found I had a difficult time starting out as two or often three mobs like to pull at the same time (or, if you manage to get one, a Hellboar may come for a visit). In short, it's a PITA. Hope this helps! :)

You can survive grind at 56 there, when I got to hellfire at 58 as BM, it was extremely easy to grind and do quests and I had very bad gear.

I cleared out all faction quests in Felwood, and every quest i could get in Winterspring. While some of them are tedious and seem to go back and forth, the exp was pretty nice. i would suggest doing that and Silithus, anything to get to 58, before doing the Outland thing.

Outland is fun and you will have a great time replacing all your gear in about an hour. But, surviving there with Azeroth gear to grind out 2 levels would be rather trying.

The challenge I found with grinding in Outland at level 58 with reasonable (but by no means great) gear was that my pet's Growls were resisted an awful lot more than I was accustomed to. That left me in a lot of situations where FD was already on cooldown when the mob would come after me a second time. Lots of traps were used at level 58 (and more than one were resisted). Overall it wasn't a terrible experience by any stretch of the imagination, but drop two levels and it could get a bit crazy. There would only be a limited number of places where you could grind without putting yourself in serious risk of a corpse run. 500xp/mob unrested is great, but killing two mobs in the same amount of time with less risk for 300xp each is even better.

I wouldn't discourage you from giving it a shot, but don't think poorly of your skills as a Hunter if you have a rough time.

I was bit scared how will it look on hunter because I wasnt alone on my first toon and we still had few problems now and then.
I geared myself mostly in "of the bandit" pieces from AH (whatever I could find for lvl 58) and to be honest it was piece of cake really.

Funny, I didnt have much resist anything and I was killing and trapping level 61 boars without problems. I usually had a cat out because she for some reason kept better aggro. Took me few hours to ding 60.

go for it!
when i first went thru the portal on the opening night i went sightseeing straigth away. the first place that really started to be abit challenging was the cave to blades edge before that it was relativly easy living so a non geared hunter shouldnt have a prob in hellfire atleast imo.
should it prove to tough just buy some gear from ah

go to Outlands now.
I went at 56 myself and grinding out there is way faster then questing in pre-tbc places.

I didn't head into outlands until level 58, because I wanted to do the quests and wanted to go through the portal to start off my career there.

Before that I was in Northern Western plaguelands grinding on the Scarlet Lumberjacks and Knights there. I was full rested and used a good amount of MP/5 gear to help keep the grind going, and was doing 60-70k xp an hour easy. I was also pulling 2-3 mobs at a time without doing much CC/ kiting, just sent pet in to take a beating, set trap and then mend pet. I'd take hate from the remaing mobs for the healing and then I would simply take the beating from one until my pet got him off me, or just FD if it was off CD but it was an easy thing to do as a BM Hunter with pet having good health and armor.

Just grind it out in Azeroth, rushing into Outlands can make things slower for you since the mobs there are a bit tougher and have more HP than pre-BC mobs. But once you get to Outlands hit it hard, you'll be replacing just about every piece of equipment you have in the first 10 quests or so.

My guild buddies thought it was great fun to summon me to outlands at 58, then they went off an ran BF. They said "Go grind Hellboars! Have fun!"

I found out some of the things previously said the hard way. After I learned HOW to grind Hellboars, it wasn't hard. My skinning skill was BARELY up to the task. So, several Hellboars and lots of skinning levelling later, I was at 59 and things got a lot easier.

Interestingly enough, I got a few good drops and even did a few quests with others. It really wasn't all that bad. I'd say go for it. Anything that doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. -paraphrasing Nitsche

In the case of WoW, you get stronger even being killed a few times!

It all depends on what you want to do. If you are looking to get to 70 as fast as possible, grinding and questing to 58 in Azeroth will put you in a better position for Outland. If you want to have some fun and test you CC abilities, go to Outland now.

You will have a rough time for a while, but it will only prepare you for the horrible PUGS you will be grouped with through the many Outland instances.

I died quite a few times at 58 and I had a Warrior friend along. We would get huge pulls and fight for our lives. Aggro range seemed to be ridiculous and some of those guys are close as hell, packed in a small area. Not sure how hard that would have been solo and two levels lower.

I went out at 58. It was much easier on my hunter than my lock. I hate those hellboars...curse their everlasting souls. Right now I go back and forth between outlands and azeroth finishing up stuff. In fact I lvled to 61 running Scholo the other night. Yippie.
