Frost or Fire for leveling?Follow

#1 Oct 22 2007 at 4:23 PM Rating: Default
Hi Everyone :

I'm new to mage currently level up my mage to 38 and stay as fire spec mage, for spec my friend suggest me to go for frost spec so I can solo everything, but for dmg fire spec seem very nice, so I really get confused for which spec is good for leveling >< so I tend to spec to frost at level 40 have a try using frost spec to level, but before I do that I just want to hear from everyone's opinion so I can decide also if I decide to go for frost can anyone post the link that are best for leveling(if it decent enough for pvp too will be good) so I got an idea how to put my talent point not to waste it on useless talent.

Watch out, you'll get a lot of flaming for that poorly written paragraph.

Anyways, go frost for leveling. I can't provide you with a proper build, though, because I suck at making builds.

Learn to clear up your sentences, I had a hard time reading it.

I am going to make the assumption that English is not your first language (or at least I hope not), but moving past that, both trees are excellent for leveling. I preferred frost for the ability to AoE grind a few levels in my 40s and the inherant snaring ability and decent crits while leveling with frost (shatter is wonderful) made it pretty nice.

You can really go either way for leveling. I have a frost mage and my husband plays a fire mage.

Frost will give you much better survivability with nice tricks like Cold Snap, Shatter and Ice Barrier (when you get to that!)

Fire, from what I've seen, gives you incredible dps, with Pyroblast, Blast Wave, and all sorts of damage improvements. He burns down a mob before it can get to him most of the time.

Which ever way you decide to go, definitely improve your nuke first (either imp frostbolt or fireball). Then decide which talents best suit your playstyle and have fun!

Both specs are good with fire you have extremely high crits and with combustion at level 40 a lot of crits. Frost is about survivability and aoe grinding with some decent damage along with it. I would try frost for a while see if you like it if you dont no big deal just respec back when you get the chance. http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=oZZVVGIkzxo0o
thats a good single target build at 40 for frost

Frost > Fire for lvling for many different reasons.

First - Survivability is your friend.. and frost has alot of it.

Second - PvP. If your on a pvp server while lvling, frost will give you a much better chance to kill off those pesky gankers. Most people will see you using frost on mobs and just leave you alone (cept warriors.. they will cry like a little girl and run away)

Third - AoE grinding FTW!!!!

Fourth - If your going to raid once you hit 70 your going to have to switch to fire.. so use frost now so you can experience all the mage has to offer. If your going to PvP alot your going to want to be frost... so get to know the ins and outs of frost now

Fith - did i mention AoE grinding?

and last - Elite??? what elite?? At your lvl and with some good +frost dmg gear, you can take on just about any mob in your lvl range that can be nova'd. Being a good frost mage makes the phrase "solo questing" to a whole new level. Unless it says "Suggested players (5)" you can probably do it yourself. With sheep, FN, your elemental at lvl 50 with his FN, and cold snap, your a CC/DPS/tank all on your own. Basicly my motto is "if it can be frost nova'd, I can kill it"

AOE grinding requires you don't take frostbite, which is a hit while leveling because you don't get some extra shatter crits. So a leveling frost build is not the same as an AOE grinding build.

I leveled fire for the most part and AOE grinding for a bit. It's only good if you don't get bored killing the same mobs over and over and over and over and over (ad nausium). Fire kills quickly, but you do take a hit in survivability (no ice barrier later), but honestly, if I had to do it over again, I'd go fire for more damage and faster kills. You can level with either one just fine... this is just my opinion.

I've done both and you can go either way. Frost is more survivability and fire is more dps.

Just depends on which playstyle you prefer.

What are the actual builds for the frost AoE grinding build?

I LOOOOOVE Frost, but for some reason I level faster with Fire. I am not good with the AOE grinding in frost. Usually it end up with me having no mana, and the mobs at 10-25% of thier health left. Next thing you know....I'm running away, only regenerating enough mana to blink away like a loser. (hahaha)

blinking away like a loser > running back to your corpse

mage armor and mana gems should see that your aoe is fine unless you have no int. or spirit. The mana gems will atleast give you enough mana for a nova and a last aoe whether blizz. CoC or Arc Expl. If you'd like to feel a little safer save up some armor scrolls and throw them on not much help but it reduces a little bit of the damage.
